Just had fibro diagnoised need advise ..

Postby Anni90 » Thu Apr 21, 2016 10:09 pm

In 2014 I experienced extreme joint pain and swelling of my knees and hands. It stopped me working due to the pain. I was giving a diagnoises of inflammatory arthritis in 2014 by a private hospital after an ultra scan and was also treated under nhs who thought it could be ankylosing spondylitis. Due to bad experiences with dmards and anti tnfI I was refered to another hospital who have now said I do not have arthritis but fibromyalgia. I experience pain every day I can not sit in certain chairs due to neck pain and can noIt type or write. Also can not walk very far. I wondered if anyone had experienced a similar scenario as I really want some advise on what I can do and what condition I really have. Do fribomylagia patients have constant pain which never goes? Anyone had swellings of the knees and hands ? I have not had much muscle pain. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I've not long been diagnosed with fibromyalgia myself but so far in my experience, I have chronic pain in my feet, ankles , neck , hands , fingers ....the list is endless . However , my hands are swollen a lot of the time and my GP originally thought I had , for want of a better name, house maids knee, as my knees were extremely swollen too. This swelling goes up and down and causes great pain, discomfort and very difficult walking too. So I can relate to your situation . It's taken a long time to get to this diagnosis but I have been told I have fibromyalgia, Reynaud's phenomena and osteoarthritis in my hands and feet . So I believe your symptoms may very well be part of the condition. I hope this helps as fibrom people's symptoms are wide and varied, we don't all get the same but lots are similar .:)

Thank you very much my hands are like sausages and have never gone down I have lumps coming off my knees which look like fluid surrounding this? My gp has said that fibro is the last diagnoises before everything is ruled out I have seen 3 different rheumatologist 2 for arthritis one for fibro. My GP also stated that fibro is a list of symptoms not so much a diagnoises. I really am struggling with which one i have and what I can do. I have had this for three years and had caused many psychological problems due to stress of what is really wrong with me. I have chronic pain which dose not go I wake with it and go to sleep with it. I have now learnt my limitations of what I can do on a daily basis but am really struggling to understand how a condition such as fibro can do this and it's not really recognised by health care proffesionals and no real treatment plan not specialist available. Feeling very lost at the moment to what my options are. Is your pain that bad you can't write? I struggle with a sentence. I can't walk for long nor sit in certain seats as I will start getting extreme pain where I could cry. Also have swallon ankles I have read about the trigger points but I am tender everywhere. I feel like this diagnoises has been pushed on me as they can't not have another explanation as my bloods are always normal I am on prednisole so apparently this affects blood work. Again any advise is greatly appreciated thank you.

Fibro is a chronic pain condition which never goes. Swelling / inflammation / redness etc is NOT a fibro symptom.

You can get muscle knots (like hard lumps all over) most slip and slide about when pressing on them.

Prednisole is a steroid which attacks inflammation so yes it can effect bloods but it does work well for severe inflammation.

Hi so the swelling in my hands and wrists isn't associated with fibro? They picked up hypertrophy grade 1 in my wrists on an ultra scan a few months back but My last rheumatologist who has denied arthritis and said fibro said that my swelling is due to ligaments which fibro can do? Again in the back of my mind not sure what doctor to believe! I have hard fluid lumps on the outside of my knees which can be seen clearly and felt. Also been told that my knee joints are swallon which I can push but had these again since this condition began as well as the swallon fingers. I also have swelling at the top of my neck. I do have a lot of fibro sometimes including tiredness feeling generally unwell day to do. one day I will feel well the next feel like I'm coming down with something and sofa bound. Does prednisolne Ulter any other tests except inflammation I have been tested for all auto immune diseases which has come back negative. Thank you for the advise it has helped greatly.

sorry unable to help, but if it helps to know you you are not alone with a such a varied diagnosis. I was diagnosed with Fibro in Jan 2016 but there are still several conflicting views among the various consultants that they may as well have been seeing two different people but from exactly the same MRI scans and test results. :?:  I am also still in complete denial myself about the condition as there are several other significant symptoms which don't seem to relate to Fibro - like severe bone pain and inflamation. Before the Fibro diagnosis everythiong was blamed on spinal stenosis and the OA causing it, now everything happening is blamed on Fibro. In my slight brain fog state I cannot help but conclude that there is some sort of NHS conspiracy afoot implemented for legal reasons .... :dunno:
