Ankle and leg swellings and pain

Postby Roselil » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:32 pm

Dear sufferers, For about 3 years now, I have suffered much ankle and leg swellings and just wonder if anyone else has the same. I have been disabled for some 30 years with Fibro and M.E. so it could be as a result of just being so disabled, but I had swelling of the hands and fingers a few years back and that turned out to be through fibromyalgia, according to the specialist I saw.

Hi Roselil

Yes, my ankles swell badly. In fact, I have cankles with podgy feet on the end. My toes look like chipolata sausages at times. I think I'm commencing the menopause as well, which doesn't help.
The other day, I couldn't get any shoes or boots on - only my slippers. Thank the lord I was working from home!

Much Love

Thanks for replies. Lindy, so sorry you have the same trouble. Though I very seldom can get out, I could not get into any boots or shoes, so have had to buy slippers and shoes with velcro fastenings, so adaptable, from Dr. Keller on E Bay. They are very reasonably priced and good quality. I live mostly with my legs "UP" anyway, being disabled, and they appear quite normal first thing in the mornings, but get worse throughout the day. I do not think it is water retention, as I already take Milk Thistle which also contains dandelion regularly.

Seeing a doctor is not that easy. My own doctor died about 3 years ago, and it seems we just have nurses available, and the last actual doctor I saw, was utterly useless. She did not have a clue.

Hi I also have the same problem. My ankles swell and my lower legs swell and are rock solid. As the day goes on and I've got my ankle boots on, you can see where my leg starts to swell.
art girl why should we get checked at docs as i just assumed it was part of fibro as any time i go to gp im alaways told oh its part of fibro xx

Dear friends, The trouble is that if you go to the doctor's, more often than not, the first thing they decide is water retention so they put you on a diuretic. I tried that years ago and I could not move from the toilet, so life was nil. I already take Milk Thistle, a herbal product, which contains Artichoke, and dandelion.
Kind regards, Roselil

Dear Dolphin, Thank you for telling me your ankles and lower legs also swell up. I was not quite sure what you were saying. Was it that every time you see a G.P. they tell you it is due to Fibro?

I had my hands swell painfully a few years back, thinking it must be carpel tunnel, but when I saw a specialist, he asked questions, and then diagnosed Fibromyalgia as the cause. I wore hand supports for ages, and still do, but my hands returned to normal size, so hoping my ankles and legs will, in time, do the same. Trouble is that being disabled for so many years, I have now put on much weight, which despite eating little, I can do nothing about it.

Kind regards, Roselil
