Wedding Songs?

Postby Charmed » Fri Mar 06, 2015 3:42 pm

Hi guys please try to help me out here, my foggy brain is mush

I'm getting married in 4 short months and I need ideas for songs????? I'm 55 and my partner is 61 and we are getting married in the local town hall. So I need a nice song to walk in and out???? Then ones for the 1st, 2nd & 3rd dance at the reception?????? We also want 60s & 70s music for the disco.

We like:
1) Amazed, by Lonestar.
2) At Last, by Etta James.
3) I Love You Because, by Jim Reeves.
4) A Thousand Years, by Christina Perri.
5) Alone, by Heart.
6) Next To You, by Emile Sande.
7) Yours, by Ella Henderson.
8) In My Life, by Bette Midler.
9) Beautiful Day, by U2.
10) Love Of My Life, by Queen.
11) Hey Ho, by The Lumineers.
12) I'll Stand By You, by The Pretenders.
13) Breathless, by The Corrs
The list is endless :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: And nothing is gelling together.

I'm thinking, People Are Strange, by The Doors... may get some funny looks though
If you could list me your favourites I'd be really grateful :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

It may be a little out of your era, but me and hubby had our 1st dance to Savage Garden - Truly, Madly, Deeply. its lovely.

I love your Number 3 choice but for different reasons, my Dad was always singing it around the house when me and my sister lived at home, and we used it as one of his funeral songs, it made us smile on such a sad day.

Oh, and i thought you only had to chose one dance, never heard about 2nd and 3rd dances/songs and ive been married twice

I love that song from Savage Garden, but reminds me of a previous relationship :nono:

My Dad used to sing I love You Because too, that's why I like it so much.

The 3 dances, well I was thinking... the 1st dance with my new husband. The 2nd is normally with your parents and since both of ours have departed, we could maybe have this dance with our respective children? Then the 3rd dance would be to get everyone on their feet or wheelchairs (my pals) dancing.

Oooh I love 60s and 70s music! I was so born in the wrong era... :nono:

I heard Bridge Over Troubled Water yesterday, I do love that song but it made me burst into tears so maybe not the best choice!

I also like Band of Gold and I'm Not In Love, but...err...no don't do that ;-)

Just looking at a list of 60s and 70s number ones and these are some of my favourites:
The Searchers "Sweets for My Sweet"
The Kinks "You Really Got Me"
The Byrds "Mr. Tambourine Man"
The Walker Brothers "Make It Easy on Yourself"
The Spencer Davis Group "Keep On Running"
Four Tops "Reach Out I'll Be There"
The Foundations "Baby Now That I've Found You"
Norman Greenbaum "Spirit in the Sky"
T. Rex "Hot Love"
Tony Orlando and Dawn "Knock Three Times"
Nilsson "Without You" (bit of a downer that though!)
Sweet "Blockbuster"
The Rubettes "Sugar Baby Love"
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)"

And absolutely loads of disco songs, ABBA, Boney M...

I like People Are Strange, but the version from The Lost Boys by Echo and The Bunnymen. Altho me and OH haven't taken the plunge, we have occasionally discussed what we would have if we did get round to it, altho I don't think our choices would be of much help to you as first dance would be The Time Warp, followed by The Rowboat Song {Oooops Up Side Your Head} then either The Locomotion {Kylie's version} The Macarena, or Saturday Night :chicken-dance: :chicken-dance: :chicken-dance:

As for walking into and out of the venue.......Queen's Another One Bites The Dust

We aren't getting married, but our 'couples' song (cos I made him choose one lol) is Stay Together by Suede. Although at first he suggested Absolute Beginners by Bowie

Oh I used to love that guy from Suede, just You Tubed it.... Really nice song. I've been a Bowie fan since 1972 (God I'm old lol)
My favourite track is Wild Is The Wind and I would definitely have that for walking, but my other have can't stand him, typical

I've been listening to the Chilli Peppers, Kasabian, the Kaisars etc, but they are all fast ones... I don't know where the time went

Oh I didn't know you could have music whilst you signed the register, that would be nice. Did you have to take in separate CDs with a song on each?
I forgot about that Savage Garden one, very apt! Mmm I like Bon Jovi too.... it's just so hard to pick

Just thought of another, All of me by John Legend.

We had our wedding at a registration office. It was just like a normal wedding except it wasn't in a church. I cant remember of we brought a cd in or if they had their own ones. Its worth asking about it. Its just something nice to play while we take photos and sign the register rather than silence! Lol

I like that one by John Legend :-D But other half calls him John Leg End

We've to go back to Registrar a few weeks before the wedding to pay the remainder and tell them what we want etc. I'm going to ask if we can have the service sitting in chairs, as I really don't think I will be able to remain standing through out the exchange of vows.

Perhaps for most of the service sit down and if you can manage, stand up for the vows at the end x
