Fibroduck Foundation Research

Postby Fibroduck Foundation » Wed Feb 22, 2012 4:29 pm

This is the first research proposal the Fibroduck Foundation would like to fund to kickstart UK research into Fibromyalgia.

A blinded study of antibodies to viral infections in patients suffering from fibromyalgia and age- and sex-matched healthy controls - B. K. Puri & J. A. Monro

Background
Evidence has suggested the possibility that viral infections may be responsible for the pain associated with fibromyalgia (see, for example, Sprott, 2011).

Aim
We wish to test the hypothesis that fibromyalgia may be associated with latent viral infection.

Methods
Blood samples will be collected from 26 patients fulfilling the 1990 American College of Rheumatology criteria for fibromyalgia (Wolfe et al., 1990) and from 26 age- and sex-matched healthy control volunteers. The samples will be anonymised and tested by a laboratory which is blind to group allocation for an extensive range of viral antibodies.

Costings
The total grant support requested for this innovative study is £26,000.

I'll be making sure I spread the info and linky as far and wide as I can, every little bit of support for the research that can be drummed up will take it that little bit closer to reaching it's goal :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

Its in our interest to get this research going who knows it just might help to get better medication, better education of GP's and specialists and eventually a cure for us all :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Hey guys
Just to update you that we had a donation this morning that took our total so far to £379. Still a very long way to go, sooner we raise the money, sooner we can kick start the research. :-)
