ESA 50. Oh Joy!!!

Postby oorwullie » Tue Mar 06, 2012 6:23 pm

Just sent my ESA 50 form off after weeks completing it. Sent in about 12 reports from specialists and GP as evidence as well as written statements from my family. Got the lovely prospect of a medical to look forward to now. :yikes:

Thanks animalhouse. I had to appeal last year and went to a tribunal, failed at the tribunal as well. The doctor on the panel was an idiot. Tried to blame my symptoms on drinking coffee, no joke, told her I dont drink coffee to which she replied oh well it must be alcohol then. Said i was tee-total so she tried to blame it on smoking then she finally tried to blame it on flu. The CAB woman who was representing me was outraged and complained immediately after the tribunal and I was awarded another tribunal due to an error in law. The new tribunal couldn't have been more different, the doctor on this panel was very nice and had actually bothered to read all my medical reports and letters my specialist had sent. I was in and out in 5 mins, appeal won. Bracing myself for another battle this time around.

Absolutely horrendous that is. Also a tee total non smoker. Coffee is one of the most disgusting things on the planet IMO. It's about the only thing out there that's worse than cream. And I hate cream :-| I'm also on a caffeine free diet, so de caf tea all the way and no more Coke.

When I had my ESA medical I could tell the woman didn't believe I was tee total. I don't know why people have such a massive problem with believing people who don't drink actually don't drink. At first I thought it was because of my age (23) but I know a tee total 35 year old man and no-one believes him either. Even when I show people my meds and the 'do not consume alcohol' messages on the stickers they still don't believe me :-x

Let's hope you get a better result at the medical this time around and don't have to appeal again :fingerscrossed:

Nothing surprises me anymore Ldyalb, I think that's half the problem I had as well, being relatively young they refused to believe I was tee-total. When the so called doc said its probably flu the woman from the CAB actually burst out laughing and said so you think its flu eh, does flu last for 2 years. On a seperate note though my neurologist actually advised me to drink a small amount every day to help with the shakes I have and as mild pain relief. Gave it a miss though i'm daft enough without a drink. :-D

I'm not surprised she laughed. Who on earth gets a 2 year long bout of the flu!? I think that Doctor went to the same medical school as 'Dr' Nick Riviera from the Simpsons!

Scary stuff. I have a friend who is a newly qualified Dr and some of the tales she's told of the lack of knowledge of some other Drs is shocking. Especially older ones who aren't as up to date.
