payments from DWP

Postby janderhip » Fri Feb 01, 2013 3:03 pm

Has anyone else had problems with their fortnightly payments for ESA? Since I have changed from Incapacity Benefit to ESA, every now and again I have to chase this up as not going into bank,as it has happened again today .I have had to ring DWP again to see what is going on!
I have enough stress already, besides having to chase this up and spend how ever long in a queue on the phone. Thanks for any replies in advance.

I have not experienced this…Thus far!!…I did however have my fortnightly payments broken into weekly payments over the christmas period? Never had that happen before?? completely threw me out…However wont have to worry soon as ESA comes to a sudden halt in a week or so, as will have had my 365 days!! Even though there is no way I will EVER be fit for work again with a long list of medical problems Fibro being only one of them…So why on earth I was put in WRAG is beyond me, and just what I am supposed to live on after is another mystery..WRAG implies that you are expected to fit for work sometime in the future but that will never happen I will only get worse. Also as goal posts for pension have been moved I will have to wait another 8 years for my pension instead of the 2 I thought I would recieve it.

Hi can I ask if it is contribution based you are on? If so you can ask to be put on income related after the year is up, you may get this depending on your circumstances and any other income coming into the household, you could get a benefit check from the CAB or do one online at http://www.turn2us.org.uk/benefits_search.aspx I hope this helps you a little, good luck. Have you applied for DLA?

Dear Romany65,
You should've appealed against being put in the wrag group. However, please ask for new ESA50 form and re-apply for ESA on the grounds of ill health. You will need a new sick line from your GP. If you are again put in to the wrag group...appeal and ask to be put on the 'appeal rate' money while you are being reconsidered.
There are two little known exclusions written in to the ESA's own regulations.29 and 35 which states that they can't put you in wrag or fit for work.... if doing so will exacerbate your condition.
With the backing of your GP and or specialist you should be able to win this argument and get awarded a place in the support group. There is no time limit to the support group, although they like to hound us with the intention of grinding us down in the hope we give up. Please don't give up.... no-one with a genuine disability should ever give up.

Sorry to the OP.... I get my IB paid 4 weekly and never had a problem.... this may change when I go to ESA however....

yes I have always had problems with my ESA payments...it has settled a bit since winning my appeal. However, over christmas the payments arrived early twice and then late..... made it difficult to budget even though I believe it was intended to help!

As for the WRAG, I think you have to apply again, with a sick note from your GP, I think people with fibro should all be in the SG appeal if you are put in WRAG. I was terrified of going to court, it wasnt pleasant but at least I felt I had my say.

gentle hugs

Hi, you can ask for a reconsideration on the grounds of a worsening in your condition, this can be requested at any time during your claim but needs to be supported by GP, Consultant, support worker ect. When the new restriction for contrabution based ESA to 365 days last april we were inundated with these requestes and many did get up graded to the support group. (in a previous healthy life I worked on WCA ESA section, but please dont hate me for it )
