Fit note but in Support group

Postby fletch » Sat Jul 27, 2013 11:00 am

Hi all hope your not to bad today

I've been placed in the support group for one year ending next May 2014 but this morning had a letter from DWP saying my fit note is due to run out and I need to send another fit note

I was under the impression that once you were in the support group you didn't need to send in any more fit notes

Can Anyone put my mind at rest or do I need a new fit note

Many thanks fletch

hi fletch,

I was placed into the wrag group
job centre plus sent me a text (!) to inform me that I wouldn't need to hand in any more doc certificate
I still handed them in
my gp writes them for half a year

for about one year didn't have to go to any meetings
then, there was a delay of getting the certificate to JC in time
had one (!) appointment with advisor
showed him the "follow up" and he put me on a list to call me once every four weeks
reason: my gp wrote me off as not fit for work
so no work related activity for me to go to

so my advise would be to go to your gp and get a certificate and send it off (after you made a copy for yourself)
the JC has pre paid envelopes for you to collect
I think it is less stressful to go and see your gp than to go through all the hassle to find out if you need or need not send in etc
all the best :cow-wave: Lu

When they put me in the Support group, they wrote to my gp saying they didn't need any more sick certificates. They didn't tell me, when I went to see my gp and asked for another one he told me I didn't need it. I came home and phoned ESA just to make sure and they confirmed it.

Thanks Ria the problem is its hard to get to see a doctor here or even get a phone call

Im due to see the doctor next Friday but the sick note runs out on the 31 July

I will phone the DWP first to see if I need to send a fit note and if yes ask if they can wait until the Monday or Tuesday after my doctors appointment

I was placed in Support Group then a month later my Fit note ran out and I rang ESA to ask what to do , was told I didn't need to send any in as thier medical professional had assessed me as unfit to work until the date of my Support group letter. Haven't sent in any since and heard nothing more from them . Seems strange to have one rule in one place and one rule the next.

Would ring ESA office again and speak to who ever was named on your Support letter and query the request re the sick note , may be the part dealng with your claim hasn't got the letter placing you in Support ? I know with my office they seem to have different sections for dealing with a claim, a claim pre assessment and then a claim after assessment.

Good Luck

Always best to double check with DWP, take a name and make a note of both it and the date and time you phoned just to cover your back :goodluck1:

Hi All, I was put on ESA 4 years ago or other issues but I'm glad I am. I am in the support group, the dwp told me to keep sending the sick notes(as they were then) but my GP just gave me an indefinite sick note. Ask your GP for an indefinite fit note and get them to write a letter to bak it up. Hope that helps anyone else who comes across this problem. Sue

Cheers Sue

I haven't sent in a new fit note and the DWP have not stopped my money so looks like they don't want one whilst in the support group
