Yes some people do claim DLA. It's called PIP now. Be prepared to have to fight for it, and try and get help from an advice centre to fill in the forms. Good luck :-)

Hi Richard.

Sorry to hear you're having a tough time right now.

You are definitely entitled to claim for disability benefits. DLA is being replaced by PIP, and so you would have to make a PIP claim. You may also be entitled to ESA.

I'd suggest you make an appointment with your local CAB to discuss benefit entitlement. They are fabulous and will help you to make your claim and explain what happens next.

viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16818 give this link a browse as well. Hopefully it'll help clear some things up.

yes apply for it. expect a fight. it took me a year of appeals but in the end i refused to go to the medical center -too far, too distressing - and i had a lovely Dr came to do an home visit and i think that's what did it for me. Every FMS sufferer that wins their case is a victory for us all. I didn't have anyone else fill it in. I did answer all the questions that needed more than a yes/no answer on the computer (in a word.doc) and then just printed it out and attached it. That way i had a copy of what i said, and i could take my time and be able to read through what i had put, my handwriting gets really bad. Trying to get a CAB or help to fill those forms in is almost impossible where i live, too many people claiming and wanting help.

im receiving dla and esa so if i was you i would try for them although dla is being replaced with pip. go to cab they will help you with forms but make sure you have your doctor backing you as this will help. if they say no then the cab will help you with the appeal they have brilliant solicitors that will help fight the dwp all the way. i hope you get them. also if you do receive dla/pip and you have mobility issues with your drs backing you can apply for a bus pass from your local council. i have one and is a god send. :-D

DLA/PIP can be claimed by FMers. The benefit is paid based on how illnesses/conditions/disabilities affect you rather than because you have a particular/specific illness/condition. It is split into 2 parts, the Daily Living component and the Mobility component, and paid at 2 rates, the standard rate and the enhanced rate. The rate you receive depends on much of an effect your problems have on these 2 components.

Have a bit of a looky at this linky about for more info about the benefit and how to claim.

It depends how badly it affects you. I'm not even going to try. I don't have the energy to fight. I've looked at PIP and it seems that you must be bed bound, spoon fed and unable to walk at all to get money. Its ridiculous how difficult it is. Luckily I have a husband that can keep us sustained for the time being. I'm hoping at some point I can get back to work but for now I'm a stay at home mum x
I am a fibro fighter not a fibro sufferer. I will keep fighting from the minute I get up til the minute I go to bed.

Yes they are. I had a Pain Clinic appointment yesterday and my consultant said it was definitely worth going for and that she was happy to be included on the form for further evidence, so I'm going to claim today. If you're seeing any specialists it's worth putting them down. They have rules for fluctuating conditions too - you can choose the option that affects you *most* of the time. Like with the ESA forms, fill it in as though every day is your worst day. You have a month to submit the form from when it arrives so it helps to get everything in order before you claim.

I've been told that if I can walk the length of a bus not to bother. Doesn't matter what ails you or what pain your in. Good luck. I have had too much to cope with to fight. Maybe in the future the will will come. Or needs must. Xx

hi I applied for pip in October and stipulated that I needed a home visit as I can't travel far or on public transport I received a home visit roughly about February. I received a letter early July saying I qualified enhanced rate for both I couldn't believe it as I didn't think I would get it as I try not to think how bad I really am I didn't want to accept it, and how people really saw how badly my.health had deteriorated. I would say go for it you have nothing to lose try to get support to fill it in don't miss anything out no matter how small. I did it myself as I couldn't go and sit for long periods of time. Good luck to you and everyone who applies ,gentle hugs to all, let us know how you get on.

Absolutely. It took 3 months but I was awarded far more than I expected ( :-P and the backdated cheque paid for a much needed stair lift). My Specialist says they take far more notice of their assessments than your GP, so remember to list all hospital visits and dates. All the best.

the problem i am going to have is that the only person i now see is my GP. I have been to the pain clinic, the physio, and i am allergic to most of the pills so not on very much and i live on my own - if i don't take care of myself no one notices - maybe i should put that on the form? I have mental health support through Mind and meditation controls the pain better than any pill but the fatigue wipes me out and sleep is stupid. I also live in a house with stairs, which i need to go up and down - very very slowly - if i want food. The whole thing is beyond me completely!
