I'm also 23, been suffering with Fibro properly since shortly after my 22nd birthday 14 months ago but have had some little flares since I was about 15.

Hi, I'm 28 years old, symptoms started when I was 14 but docs always put it down to growing pains or just weren't interested!! I was only diagnosed last month after years of battling and now struggle to do anything most of the time and always use a walking stick.
I'm glad I have finally been diagnosed but also upset that I can't do anything I should be able to do at my age! I'm sure we all feel like this and it doesn't matter what age you are really, this condition is life changing but thankfully we can come on to this site and talk to people who really understand, not just pretend they do!!
I also have joint hypermobility syndrome which really adds to the pain!! :(

I put it down to growing pains myself when I was younger, it just hits you now how many of the little things you could have noticed before, but my Fibro honestly wasn't bad enough to properly bother me when I was young, I didn't suffer with fatigue at all then. I was part of the local track and field team (Wigan Harriers, I'm from Wigan originally) and did all sorts of things.

In my teens I went out every night for a couple of weeks one half term  Even when I moved here 3 years ago I was feeling ok, with just some back pains I put down to me working at the off license, carrying heavy thing and being stood up for 5+ hours.

It was just after Christmas 2 years ago I started to feel ill, like I had a stomach bug. First week into the new year, I woke up at 3am in screaming agony with the worst stomach pain I've ever had. Boyfriend phoned an ambulance but they insisted it wasn't an emergency even though I could hardly walk and the pain was so bad it was making me throw up every few minutes. Managed to get me to the Walk-In Centre here by about 7am but by then it had faded enough. Doc thought it was probably a stomach bug but said to get some Buscopan for the cramps. I love those magic tablets! Nice that they also help with my car sickness. It went on for a few more weeks though, and it was DX as IBS. Wasn't for 6 months after that I started to get fatigue and joint pains properly.

I turned up to see the Registrar at my surgery, told him I thought I had Fibro and told him all the symptoms I have (which is about 90% of the common ones, though I have to say they've never been half as bad as some people here's) he did blood test (It came back "perfectly normal" lol they obviously never met me) and pressure point test, said I probably did have Fibro and that I could go to a rheumy or just start on Ami's and see if they helped. They did and with some jiggling of doses I now class myself as Not That Bad in Fibro terms :D
Still struggle with major fatigue and memory loss, but the pain is manageable most days, so I cope.

Phew that was a Short History of Me.

Hi there, I am 22 and have been off work for 6 months now. Docs and specialists think it is Fibro and am going back to the rhmey on Wednesday where the doc thinks he will diagnose me.
My mum is convinced that i have always had this illness, as like many of you i had lots of 'growing pains' and terrible fatigue growing up.
I find it hard to accept that i have this illness!
I also think i have the beginnings of rheumatoid arthritis! Ahh well, fingers crossed its not!
How do you guys cope with the everyday aches and pains?
:fingerscrossed:

Young People with Fibromyalgia

Postby Lindsays82 » Mon Sep 19, 2011 9:05 pm

Hi there I'm 28 and recently diagnosed with FM, after months probably years of pain, always had every illness and aches and pains whilst growing up but never got to me at all.
I played rugby from the age of 10 and even joined the armed forces as a medic at 18 all was well until few years after I joined up when again seem to catch every bug going (some just a hazard of the job) also got a pretty bad back injury in 2003 whilst in Iraq, also nasty leg injury which plagued me for 3 years until operated on July 2010 - I had compartment syndrome in both legs

My nickname within months of qualifying as a medic was White cell as I was always ill.....makes sense now lol!

Since the diagnosis life has changed so much from worrying about day to day things and also admitting that my days are numbered in my current career - that's been the hardest part as it's all I know.

Sending gentle hugs to my fellow fibromites x
Lindsay

I'm yet undiagnosed, but waiting so who knows what will happen.

I've suffered pains since the age of 10 and now being 23 they are seriously bad.
Again all put down to growing pains and various other problems like flat footedness etc.

I'm 27 and newly diagnosed with FM. Had it for about a year now.

Used to play football 2-3 times a week, gym everyday. Sometimes I struggle to walk now, never have much energy to do anything strenuous. Still a learning curve atm.
