How To Upload a Photo to the Forum

Postby FluppyPuffy » Mon Sep 17, 2012 2:48 pm

On here it is possible to upload a photo directly onto a post instead of having to first upload an image onto a photo~hosting site. Hopefully this will take you thru the steps straightforwardly and successfully :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

PICTURE SIZE
It helps if the picture you're wanting to upload isn't too big to be viewed easily on the screen. To make sure it isn't, you can resize the image before you add it to the uploader.

For resizing, something like Microsoft Office Picture Manager can be used, or this linky http://www.shrinkpictures.com/ is a free online picture resizer which is really straight forward to use. As a guide when choosing the size of your picture, 800 pixels and under will give a good sized, clear picture without having to move the screen up and down or across too much so all the details can be easily seen.

Uploading A Photo
1. Click on POST REPLY or NEW TOPIC which will take you to the box where you can make a post.
2. Make a post/reply, then scroll down the screen to the box under the SAVE/PREVIEW/SUBMIT buttons.
3. The top of this box has 3 options so choose UPLOAD ATTACHMENT.
4. Once into here there is a FILENAME box which has a Choose button.
5. Click the Choose button, this will open up a box containing the folder where you save your photos to on your PC (Hopefully :fingerscrossed: ) If it isn't the right folder, then select the right location thru the box that has opened up.
6. Select the image that you want to upload, then click on the SAVE button that should be highlighted. This will add the filename of your image to the FILENAME box.
7. From here you can preview what the image will look like on your post by clicking the PREVIEWbutton.
8. If you're happy with how it looks, click the "Add The File" button, and it will do exactly that
9. If you want to add a comment about the photo use the FILE COMMENT box to say what you want to about it.
10. Finally, click on SUBMIT and all being well, your image should be on your post on the screen in front of you :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Hopefully this will help you add some photos that you would like to share with other members of the forum :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: If you have any problems or Gremlins trying to mess things up, let us know and we'll see what we can do to help you with them

AN easy photo storage site is Photobucket? ( you sign up, but it is free to use) Link here: Its quite simple to use, you can hotlink (add avatar, banner for use on forums etc) it allows you to resize, and auto offers links for forums :-D

A non-sign up site that seems steady and reliable is You simply upload from 'browse' your pc, and paste link into forum

Another good site is Imageshack: no membership needed, just upload and copy link, to suit ( plus it thumbnails..ie, add a mini photo to enlargement) Handy :-)

If you need to resize an image, may I recommend ? again, no sign up needed, instant resize to chosen listing option.

Thank you for those linkys Pepperty. The above details were posted in response to members asking how they could add a photo to their posts without the need for a photo~hosting site, something which I know isn't always possible on a forum.
