Fibromyalgia Magazine columns

Postby helen virgo » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:56 pm

As I'm sure many of you realise I write the forum round up column of UKFM's Fibromyalgia magazine. This is a chance to promote the forum and get people talking about things that matter to us fibro folk.

So here's where you come in, I need ideas for the column then I can search through the forum and create the column which hopefully will bring some more members into the forum. YOu can either tell me below or send me a private message.

Thanks for your help.

How about how it takes us so much longer to carry out a task which we used to manage in half the time, from something as simple as brushing our hair (if we manage to) to writing a post on here :-? :-? :-? :-? (I end up losing my train of thought and going off onto something completely different) thank heaven for preview :-D

HI, how about how easy it is to be mis diagnosed to be told you have a common/easy problem " Menopause" and treated with a easy drug HRT, in and out the doctors in 4 mins its so much easier than the truth! when really its not that at all and have to wait 7 years with no relief to be correctly diagnosed.
Or how FM suffers hate going to the doctors as they have had to go so many times ,ignored, being belittled, thought a hypocondreachs when you know things are wrong and can only give your symptons and pray the doctors really listens and doesnt give up or go for the easy option
Or somewhere other than your own Doctor as you lose faith in them, that people can find out if their pain/symptons, chest pains/sweating etc and lots of others are actually symptons of FM ?
Or to have Fibromyalgia specialists (none in Essex) in each county atleast ,not just hope someone takes a interest in their spare time
Or more research on cures not just anti depressants and possible believing some of the USA research PC3 By Dr andrew Holman etc
The list could just go on and on but I'm soooo tired. I want understanding and believing not just sweeping FM under the carpet!

Immediately now on just stiring/waking up every morning now I have a panic attack , its like the shock of waking to my FM body or PC3? is causing this and my body cant handle it! I dread getting what little sleep i do to wake up to this now aswell. Would i have time to tell my doctor this in my brief slot IF i could get a appointment or get up there? Doubtful, outcome if i did?. Tell you Rheumatologist when I see him in 2 months, Opps! no sorry they cancelled appt make it another month after that! Animals are treated better!!

Hi Helen Virgo

How about the debate about fibro and the hereditory factor. We are told its definately not hereditory but they still cant be sure how we develop it. From alot of the posts ive read it seems that there are alot of people who have siblings or family members who have either fibro, arthritis or mental health problems. There seems to be a link but also the conditions are very different. I myself have fibro and arthritis and was diagnosed at 37, my sister has fibro arthritis and mental health problems diagnosed at a similar age and my mother has arthritis both osteo and rheumatoid. My maternal grandmother also had arthritis as my mother. Coincidence or not ? We all have different GP's as well so there would be no linking by the GP.

If I think of any more i'll send a message to you.

Hi,
What about how many of us also have a diagnoses of Joint Hypermobilty syndrome as it seems to be a lot, me included as there are a cross over of symptons like joint pain fatigue etc.
