Numbness and Tingling

Hi there,

So I just wanted to know basically if this was common with fibromyalgia. I've only been recently diagnosed and I'm still battling with my gp over my diagnosis. But I keep losing sensation in my arms and legs. My hands and feet are constantly tingling(pins and needles) and at times are numb. But I went to my gp today and he blew it off like it was completely normal. A few days ago my back was agony and I lost complete feeling in my arms and legs and I keep having spasms at night and I've always got the shakes.

Is this normal, is it caused by the pain as my pain is pretty bad at the moment or is it something I should be concerned about?

Speak soon!

Jade

Jade......it really is hard to say if it is fibro or something else. We all have different symptoms. Some are the same others not. I suggest you go back to your GP and be very firm. Explain that you do not know a lot about fibro and could he refer you to a rhuematologist. Explain how you need to know what to expect. If he brushes you off then I suggest you get a new GP

I have been dealing with fibro for 23 years. One important (at least to me) piece of advice I will give you. If you are ever concerned about something new to you, no matter how small it may seem, please get it checked. After a while we just blame everything on fibro. I have done this before and it turned out to be very serious.

^^^^^^agreed. And if your GP isn't willing to investigate further then maybe try to see another or really push it with your GP.
Hope you get some answers

Whilst numbness and tingling can be associated with FM, it can also be associated with other problems as well, so it really needs looking into further to see if there is any underlying cause at work.

With you saying your current GP just blew it off, you might want to consider seeing a different one as a supportive GP can make a huge difference when it comes to a condition like FM. If there isn't a decent one at your current surgery, changing to another practice may be the next step you need to take.

Thanks for all the support everyone. It's nice to know that there are people who care.

I've booked into see a new doctor next week but if I keep getting worse I'm thinking about heading to A + E.

I'll keep you all updated with the progress.

Hope your all well! :)

It is worth asking to see a rheumatologist as, has been already mentioned, too much can be put down to F/M.

I have similar symptoms and have osteoarthritis of the spine. I also have inverted discs in the neck which also cause numbness and tingling. I get the shakes and black out suddenly apparently due to shock from the amount of pain I get in. Trapped nerves again cause the same sensations depending on which nerves are affected. It's well worth asking about and if need be, yes, change your G.P.

Good luck.

So I ended up in A & E last week, as I had a really bad night and was on the floor unable to move. So went the next day and got checked over.

Saw a new doctor a few weeks ago who wasn't helpful at all. He did a few blood tests to check my vitamin B levels( even though I knew they would be fine as I take vitamins everyday) they were fine, as that can cause tingling. But I was soo angry, I complained and I saw a new doctor yesterday...who was well just fantastic.

She referred me straight away..I've got two new referrals to a new rhuematologist and a connective tissue specialist...so its a positive step forward. She seemed interested in my condition and wanted to help, to the point where she was going to find me a few books that I should read and lend them to me! I'm soo happy, it's been soo long!

Just thought I'd give you an update.

Positive Day! And I've gone on holiday today, painful journey which I'm sure I'll be paying for, for a few days! But the heat always helps! And getting a tan is a bonus. :)

Jade......enjoy your holidays. I was going to say forget about the pain that might be there afterwards. Don't even think of it. Enjoy everything you can in the moment. We do everything we did before my illness, just differently, slower etc. Do not let fibro own you! You are not defined by fibro. A positive attitude to things will make life better. I know it is hard but if you look you will find a bright side to every moment.

I am looking forward to hearing about your trip.
