Dear Dippy

Isn't it funny that we have all been through some kind of trauma before we took this illness.
i definitely think there is a physical breakdown and stress that brings on this horrendous frustrating illness.
Its nice to meet you and maybe speak to you sometime.
Dont worry about posting, we are all a wee bitty mad here, need to be or else we would crack up with the pain etc., especially what we call fibro fog (an excuse for our daftness) hahahaha
Welcome honey

Awww Thank you for the lovely welcome :)

I've had a bloomin' frustrating day.. Had second lots of blood results from the GP. As usual, everything's 'borderline'.

So, she's going to send me to the neuro (coz the head pressures creeping up).......... and has put me on prozac!!!!!

Now, i understand how the central nervous system can respond with anti depressants.... but i got the distinct impression she thought it was me crackin' up!! Years, and years... and years of pain... I is confuzzled!

I'm a really positive, sunny person - and most definitely NOT depressed. Sure, all this pain gets me down sometimes... but I'm not depressed!

I am very confused now!

GP mentioned fibro again though....... and thinks that will be the name i end up with. Can a neuro diagnose fibro?!??

I hope you didn't take that personally, i only meant that this illness depression/anxiety is pretty norm.
And who wouldn't be down with pain 24/7 and all the other things - i had a neur. he said nothing wrong with you bar your illness    speak to you Rhu Specialist and dont waste my time!!!! - i was in tears as this was 2 years on from the first attack. Reason i went to him was that i kept falling over my right foot - ended up it was Sciatica in both legs but the right is more affected.
When i spoke to my GP about the Neuro's abruptness he said oh yes he can be very abrubt but he is the best in his field, and great its no MS the other we can deal with.
Really was my answer, then what are we to do.
I was sent to Rhu Clinic to the top guy within 2 days.

Oh now hun - i didn't take anything you said the wrong way at all. Please don't worry. *hugs*

I'm just a little baffled as to why GP has put me on prozac - and sent me to the neuro, not to a rhu doc......

Ooooerrrr!

Sorry for just bunging this post on the end of my old one.. brains fried.

Had neuro today. Not my normal one. He was horrible :( Was very abrupt, interrupted me when i spoke, seemed bored! I took along a friend, and she was as stunned as i am!!

He wants me on gabbapeptin (sp?) which are anti convulsion....

Gabapentin is an anti-convulsant BUT it is also quite commonly used in fibro as it has been shown to reduce nerve pain. Its also used for the pain from damaged nerves caused by shingles.
Another drug that is similar is Pregabalin/Lyrica which you may have heard of as it is officially licensed for FM in the USA.

I take gabapentin & have found it does help me, but like so many drugs for FM, it doesn't suit everyone. Most people start on a very low dose (100mg) a day & then slowly increase until they reach the "lowest therapeutic dose" of 900mg a day divided into 3 doses. Some people find less works for them, others need to go higher- I take 1800mg a day (600mg morning, noon & night) at the moment.

It wont cure all the pain etc- it helps with the burning or stabbing type pains & the "dead arm" feeling (if you know what I mean? like you've been hit in the arm or leg?)

Good luck with it, I hope it helps you!
