Cramp

Postby Suzyb » Mon Feb 06, 2006 1:09 pm

Hi Angel-on-fire. Yes I have exactly the same and have to be quite careful when doing my stretching exercise to make sure that I am in a warm enough room and that my feet are not cold. Its awful that minute you feel the cramp begin as you desperately try to stop it happening isn't it. Yes I had this trouble for years but it has got so much worse since I had the FMS.

I also get spasms in my side if I go to reach around behind me in the toilet and have to do deep breathing exercises to try to stop the pain then and let the cramped feeling subside. It feels like my muscles have got caught up on my ribs when it happens and sometimes I get little lumps come up on my rib cage that feel really sore if I accidentally touch them. They are no more than the size of a pea and go on there own accord in a few days so I have wondered if these are minute tears that they talk about. Has anyone had these happen as well. Suzy
Still got my sense of humour despite the FMS

Hi
I was just about to post about this and found this thread. I have been having pins and needle type numbness in my feet and fingertips for a little while now, this is a fairly new symptom and it's really worired me, I am waiting to see my GP and have a long list of symptoms to show him, he has said FMS is more than likely what i have but still to get a proper diagnosis.

I get them too, but the numbness is worst, and most noticable in bed, i feel that i have to keep movong them to make it go away

Yes, yes YES to all the above. THe oins and needles drive me mad, especially when i have to rub them back to life in the moddle of the night. Until reading this forum, I had no idea this was related to the fibro. It has helped me a lot to know that this is something othere fibros experience, too.

Just about to log off here owing to blurred vision being a bit of nightmare with this small font this morning but saw this and just HAD to post!

Just like flowersk..yes, yes and double yes to all those pins and needles AND the cramps :!:

However....for the cramps at least, I've got something that really does help providing I remember to take it three times each day and that's chelated Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc from Holland & Barrett, (it's the Magnesium that helps the muscles in the cramp department). Also putting a warm hot bottle under my calves at night helps to prevent it too, not great for this type of heatwave though  Nothing worse than when that cramp kicks in in the middle of the night and ya just can't leap out of bed fast enough..I mean I can't leap full stop :P And when your toes are all trying to go in different directions and then when you've got it in the ankle and can't relieve it even with sticking your foot against the cold radiator and doing the deep breathing to increase your carbon dioxide level - oh, forgot to mention how that helps too :?

For the pins and needles in my hands I have had bi-lateral carpal tunnel decompression ops but now have pins and needles in the other fingers! With carpal tunnel it was the thumb, index and middle finger that were affected but it's now the pinky and ring finger plus the arm from the elbow down. Happens no matter how I'm sitting or laying, so haven't worked out how to avoid it yet. Might mention it to the consultant at the chronic pain management clinic on me next visit in October as he might decide to refer me back to either the Rheumo or Orthopod or even Neurosurgeon. Something's gonna have to be done though as it's a blooming nuisance. Wakes me up at night too and as you all know...we don't need any help to keep waking up :!:

The very worst bit for pins and needles with me though has to be when it happens in the base of me neck. Feels like a red hot needle sticking in that :!: Can make me jump, (well NOT physically JUMP...I wish :? ). and wince just as the same sensation does when it happens in me right shoulder just on the edge of the bone, (far end of the clavical). BIG ouches The dreaded surgical collar does help alleviate some of the neck and shoulder probs though but I take it off when I'm just sitting about not doing anything....most of the time then eh :?:

Gentle huggles...this screen is looking more blurry by the minute. Time to hobble off and find a plastic bag round about size 36DD to cover me left boob with before me shower owing to a biopsy on it yesterday meaning I've gotta keep it dry for 2 days and I don't intend to hobble about 'onking :!:

Hi Everyone

Pins and needles are one of my major problems too. I had an ulnar nerve decompression to my right elbow last October which failed and I had a revision done in March this year that indicated the nerve had attached itself to the bone. My symptoms were severe pain and pins and needles in the arm and fingers and I was given a venogram to exclude a clot. Interestingly it was in March a week after the op that my fibro went into overload and my Rheumie thinks the surgery probably caused the flare.

Can't win can we!
Lots of Love

I don't feel I'm going mad anymore, thank you. Kept thinking I was imagining pins needles, burning, itching, spasms, toe & calf cramp etc...... but I'm not. Thanks folks... what a relief.
Maldives where I wish to go....... Hugs to All.

Pins and Needles ugh!

Postby ozfm » Mon Sep 25, 2006 1:22 pm

I get the pins and needles and numbness too. Often through the night and when I wake up, or if I'm doing manual work like hand sewing, or writing. I also get swelling that is accompanied often by extreme itching, tho' not always. Little fat sausage hands and feet. :?

And I get burning in my feet, I find it most often if I'm cycling and sometimes walking - 10 mins and it is just so painful.....

I also get the ice cold foot and hand - only on the left side - it feels normal to anyone elses touch - but to me it feels like someone's put a block of ice on it.

Just a suggestion - if you have numbness so bad that you can injure yourself without realising if might be worth checking with the doc - there is another condition where that happens - I personally haven't heard of it before with FMS.

Cheers

Deb

Hi, I am new to the forum. I was interested to hear about the pins and needles and numbness. I have had various symptoms over the years, but for about six months last year my hands went completely blue, and the pain in my underarm was terrible, and I could not move my arms or hands, I was referred to a Physio who did such rigorous movement that the pain was worse. She then tried acupuncture and over a few weeks the circulation did come back and the arms loosened up, but it was months before I could lift my arms.

Three months ago my whole trunk from the armpit to the groin back and front went completely numb. I could not bare the air hitting the naked skin it was so painful and the abdomen muscles were in spasm and swollen and would not relax. The pain was horrendous. I was so desparate I had a word with a Chiropractor, (I had never been to one before) who has carried out some adjustments to spine and muscle & nerve manipulation, and the feeling has returned just last week, but still muscle spasms across the stomach. He said it probably won't last, but at least he has given me a better quality of life for now.

I had been so worried - but now I have read that others have similar symptoms, it does not feel so bad.
