Postby shazq » Sat May 09, 2009 8:26 pm

what myths or sayings can you remember being told when you were young/or even you use them now.

If the wind changes your face will stay like that.

Dont swallow chewing gum it will stick to your bones.

eat up all your carrotts it will help you see in the dark.

a apple a day will keep the doctor at bay.

see a penny pick it up all the day you will have good luck.

my nan was the worst culprit for saying as a kid she used to scare me silly with wierd sayings lol;

Sitting in cold steps gives you piles

If you cry too much you wont be able to wee!!! (seriously i believed this till i was about 15!)

swinging doors in the house is 10 years bad luck. (i still cant stand my boys doing this)

sneezing 3 times or more in a row means there is a spiritual presence in the room wanting to be noticed.

vinegar in the bath gets rid of sunburn (this one hurt lol)

Putting new shoes on a table is bad luck

If yo uspill salt you throw a pinch over your left shoulder to blind the devil

Thats it for now i think....................
Just because you have to park in a blue bay doesn't make you any less of a person!

Reading the one you listed "if the wind changes your face will stay like that" brings back a funny memory....

My son had no long started school and there was a boy in his class with some difficulties/problem and his face looked different, with one eye going one way and the other eye going another..

My son came out of school and said "ooh mummy, thats my friend S**, I think he was pulling funny faces when the wind changed cos he's like that ALL the time!"

Luckily we were in the car with windows and doors shut when he was pointing out his friend to me! From the mouths of babes hey? I didnt realise we had used this saying to him, but he must have heard it somewhere - did make me giggle - bless.

Don't judge a book by its cover - So true!

Whats for you wont go by you - I like to believe that ones true!

Don't judge my journey until you've walked my path!

Every cloud has a silver lining! :nono: Not what you want to hear when something craps just happened! That or
Theres plenty more fish in the sea! - Not going to help when you've been dumped by the love of your life!

Bad luck to - cut your nails on a Sunday
put new shoes on the table
walk under a ladder
put an umberella up in the house
break a mirror
cross someone on the stairs

Good luck - if a bird poos on you
pick a penny up & all day long you'll have good luck
if a black cat walks in front of you

Thats enough for me for now I reckon!

Always wear clean undies in case you get knocked down :dunno: Just found this funny story :yikes:

Clean Undies...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Always wear clean underwear in public, especially when working under your vehicle.

From the Daily Star comes this story of a couple who drove their car to Asda, only to have their car break down in the car park.

The man told his wife to carry on with the shopping while he fixed the car.

The wife returned later to see a small group of people near the car.

On closer inspection, she saw a pair of hairy legs protruding from under the chassis.

Unfortunately, although the man was in shorts, his lack of underpants turned his private parts into glaringly public ones.

Unable to stand the embarrassment, she dutifully stepped forward, quickly put her hand UP his shorts, and tucked everything back into place.

On regaining her feet, she looked across the bonnet and found herself staring at her husband who was standing idly by.

The RAC mechanic, however, had to have three stitches in his forehead
