so I was in A&E this morning

Postby Elsbeth » Thu Aug 20, 2009 6:26 pm

As the title says.

Woe up this morning feeling a little odd.. got myself up, did my normal bathroom routine and went downstairs. Walked in to the kitchen and the next thing I know I am on the floor. My back had seemed to just spasm and throw me on the floor. Luckily i was still at my mums and she lives where she works so I was able to pull the contact cord and get hold of her. She took one look at the state of me (I had tried to get up but it really didn't work) and called an Ambulance. They were brilliant. Had to have a fire crew as well because of being on the floor and lifting regulations. They were all so nice to me. It helps when the whole crew know your mum and aunty via work I guess.

Got taken to hospital, copious amounts of Gas and Air involved. 4 hours later, x-rays and more pain relief. Another Neuro check over and I am home safe and sound. I am on rest for the next few days.

I scared me today in all fairness as I was in proper pain and I can normally handle it. It also hit home how much I have deteriorated the last couple of months and how much I really do need the OH home with me. His work wouldn't let him out to be with me as too many people had half days booked.

Bless Ya

I had a back spasm over the weekend and know exactly how you felt, the pain is indescribable (sp) I'm glad to say i'm starting to feel better from it now and it's been 4 days from coming home.

Have you been prescribed baclofen to help the muscles in your back?

I've found they have helped a lot.

Just rest like you been told xx

Are you getting any treatment? Has anyone worked out exactly what caused this. Fibro in of itself doesn't cause this kind of thing, but something else as a result or linked to Fibro might of, but working out exactly what is crucial to getting the best treatment. E.g. if you have HMS (a major risk factor for getting Fibro) then you could have subluxed something and various forms of PT and/or strapping/support may help. Or you may have myofascial pain syndrome (commonly goes along with Fibro) which will be best treated with a combo of meds and specialist release therapy). Or something else entirely.

Too often, all kinds of things get put down to "but you have FIbro!". And although that may be the case, a better specific diagnoss can really help you to get the best treatment.

Sorry for the delay, i've been away.

I am currently being seen by the Neuro team as they think I may have MS and epilepsy. Not sure how long it will take to get all my tests through and then the results but it's all in motion and that is what matters I guess. Even if the Neuro doc did have me in tears within 5 mins by telling me it was all happening coz of my meds and what on earth did I possibly think I could of had that wouldn't have killed me by now.
