We were adopted by 3 ex batts a couple of weeks ago. We've got neighbours that have got chooks and they gave us load of advice. We also bought a book called Keeping Pet Chickens by Johannes Paul and William Windham which we've found helpful. There's also loads of info on The Battery Hen Welfare Trust site, which is where we were adopted thru. We're not experts with them, but we can try to help with anything your friend might want to know :D

They're ever so funny, already ours are developing their own personalities. We were told they wouldn't lay until they'd settled and grown all their feathers back, but in the last week we've had 5 eggs from them. They were huge and made fab yorkshire puddings

BHWT will tell your friend that the ex batts must be fed on a specific food from a specific company which we were struggling to get hold of, plus it's quite expensive. Our local animal food supplier recommended the normal layers mash and they're doing pretty well on it, lots of new feathers growing, and as they're laying I think they must be pretty happy hens
