Is it time for another virtual holiday ???????

Postby princess » Mon Nov 16, 2009 10:03 pm

How about a weekend in Amsterdam?
Any takers, ill do the tour guide if anne wants a break this time - and yes we will visit the Red Light Centre - we will walk by lololol
And if you hear a bell or a whistle you put your back to the wall and get out of the way of any big men chasing someone.
But apart from that there is a lot to see and we can have a cruise down the canals.
Staying in where else but the Golden Tulip Hotel.
Breakfast is cheese, ham, rolls, cereal, or a fry up and they will make up sandwiches for anyone who wants them at lunch time.
So add your name if you want to come.
(Virtual of course)

Ok we start on Friday - i will send you all the details - i have been a few times and if you watch out for the bykes you will be ok.
Here are a few pictures, of course there are dozens of canals, we can take a cruise down them - and there is a Vicorian Zoo - there are cafes, but the brown cafes you can buy coffee and a hash etc., so we wont be in them.
The red light district is very small and we can walk it in minutes, and you can admire the ladies in the windows, red of course.
We can see if we can find Anne Franks house, that was th jewish girl who lived in hiding during the war and her family, eventually she wrote a diary and ended up in consentration camp. There are museums and also Madam Toussauds.
Shopping is very cheap, they have a thing for boots and umbrellas, and the Airport is amazing with teh train station underneath it, no need to get wet.
So here are a few pictures to wet your appetite.

Gosh i am    do we have a forum romance here    Well if Andy and Lisa come we should have a great time.
Am just getting the tickets ready and the plane organised, again we have been very lucky and given 20 tickets and 20 single (single) rooms, of course if anyone wants to share (im not taling to you Lisa ok) - then the Hotel will be able to sort that out.
Now when you arrive at the Hotel it used to be a large warehouse, so it dosent look much for the outside, but its Art Deco into, just beautiful.
Now on a word of warning, like every other city you have to watch your handbags ladies, and yes it is safe to walk along the Red Light area at any time - but you hear a bell or a whistle and you see some huge hunk running, you stand with you rback to a wall and let them get on with it, as thats some customer not paying and makinga run for it.
Plenty of museums and at the moment im trying to get us a space for Anne Franks house, but i need to negotiate.
Amsterdam is very bylingual - French, German, English and Dutch - but the Hollanders do not like to be called Dutch as its too much like German, they still dont like the germans - so they are Hollanders ok.
So ill be back with more info.

http://www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/nhcitycentre/

This is where we will be staying - its really beautiful inside and the rooms are fine, we have got some with views over the canals, but to be honest they dont smell, but the water looks very dark. So ? if you really want to look over the canals and get back to me.
