Driving lisence form

Postby minx88xl » Sun Jan 16, 2011 11:53 pm

Hiya,
i havent updated my driving lisence for years. Today i was filling out the form and in the medical conditions section it asked me : do i have
"Any persisting limb problem which needs driving to be restricted to certain types of vehicles or those with adapted controls ?" I was wondering does fibro come under that? I need an answer quite desperately as the online form is sat in front of me, help!
Thanks in advance
Laura :?
I have an amazing partner who gets me through everyday, two cats who comfort me and a lizard that makes me laugh, i know what i have and i appreciate it.

hi. if you can drive a car with no adaptations then the answer would be no.

I think that is more for disability cars, pedals on the steering wheel, basically specially adapted cars.

I would ask your doctor about driving if you think fibromyalgia restricts your ability to drive.
Take into consideration that driving tired and fatigued impares your driving ability and safety to others, by its nature fibromyalgia brings that on and personally I need to consider cognitive issues like abaility to focus and concentrate on the current task without being easily distracted.

If your not sure ask the doctor but there is a possibility if your cognitive funtion impares your ability to drive safely then you are going to be looking at surrendering your licence.

I'd speak to your dr about it, just to be sure. My licence was revoked due to illness, but that was due to dizziness and being unable to judge speeds and distances before I was dx'd with FM. If you go to see your gp, take the form with you so you can have a look thru it together.

Hi
We have had this topic come up a few times before, you dont have to inform them if your driving is not effected.

If you still feel in control when driving then there's no problem but if you feel your driving is being effected then maybe its best you dont drive.

Hi

I've just shown your post to my husband who's a driving instructor, and he said as far as he knows fibromyalgia isn't a notifiable condition, and if you go onto the direct.gov site fibro isn't listed. He also said that if fibro doesn't affect your driving directly then you wouldn't need to let them know. He also said that if you do notify them if you think it may affect you then they could send to to a driving assesment unit for assessment, it will affect your licence and your car insurance.

hope this helps

fab

i have had short licences for a while (between 1and 3 years) because i have had seizures. last time i filled the forms in as usual and was shocked to get a letter out of the blue to tell me my licence was revoked because of the medication i am on. no notice.

i have been fighting to get my licence back for a year but have decided that my fibro fog is too severe to drive responsibly.

i had to tell them what medication i am on but didn't think to notify them prior to filling in the forms. if someone has fibro fog or is on sedating medication i'm sure there is a legal responsibility to notify the dvla.

i have always told my insurance company just in case but if someone caused an accident because of fibro fog or because their medication made them less aware surely they would be prosecuted and their insurance would be invalid.

the medical section of the dvla are thorough but it's to keep people safe. if someone can't follow a converstion because of fibro fog should they be driving a car?

i have lived with pain caused by a car accident every day for the last 4 years so i have strong views on road safety. i do miss driving. maybe one day....

happy driving, adele xx

Ive had my licence 13 years or so, I passed just before they brought in all the changes in 1997 thank god. I dont drive if I know im not up to it, I wouldnt risk my licence, my own or anyone elses wellbeing. My new WAV im getting through Motability will only have an easy release handbreak and stearing ball adaptions which are basics any normal driver can buy and add so dont need to notify the DVLA and they are removable in an instant. My GP never reported me as unfit or even had an incling as he knew I just lock the car up for a rest when im not up to it and use taxis. I would never give him a reason not to trust me or report me as unfit. You have to know your limits I guess.

I only drive short distances to the doc, hospital or shops and if i dont feel up to it then i would not drive, like Emerald said you have to know your limits, i have never felt unsafe to drive but its just my choice to just stick to local driving, i like to know where i am driving to, no motorways, no stresses, just get there and back again without any worries.

 mentioned in previous post about driving license .well finally got letter ack today saying it was being revoked.no explanation .but stop driving 25th feb .so i rang them up for explanation .both my neurologist and dr said i was ok to drive .but was told optician ticked box saying couldnt read car reg 20 metrs .so i said he knew i was having eyes tested for that reason and he filled form out as he was testing my eyes .and said no probs from his test but did need stronger glasses ,which i have .but woman said if i could get hold of optician get him ring then it would be sorted .oh rang up as he said it didnt make sense .they told him i ticked box saying couldnt read car reg at 20 metres .so oh said why didnt they phone us or send letter after neuro`s and dr saying ok .now have to fill all forms out again and tests as they wont use letters they just received .been feeling really rubbish and now this .dr.wants know why bp all over place .  :( :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
