This is the same as me. Often nothing to do with that day. More the past or worrying about the future and looking at different senarios.

My mind never seems to shut off, it is working overtime day & night, half the time it make no sense to me how or why the things i am thinking have entered my head, i just drift from one thing to another.

I can feel so tired but as soon as my head hits the pillow i have 100 and 1 things going through it, my brain will not switch off, it can take me hours to drop off to sleep. I dont like to get out of bed though as i find that will wake me up more and when i go back to bed i will be back to square one so i just lay there until i drop off.

Glad it's not just me, though I've always been like this! I do things like wake up annoyed because I can't remember what a word is in another language and have to go look it up, or making random linguistic connections in the night (I did French and Spanish at uni, and learn other languages for fun - I blame that for me forgetting words in English at times)

I have relaxing music on my Ipod and put that on when I'm in bed, it helps to clear my mind if I concentrate on listening to the music. It also goes on when I wake up during the night. I find it helps to make a list of everything I want/need to get done the following day before trying to sleep.

hi sorry Fiona im new to this and still figuring out how to work it. the app ive downloaded is fix pain hypnosis. im with orange and have a smart phone so i dunno if diff providers will have other ones. if you go on to your store page and type in free hypnosis fibromyalgia u will get a list of diff ones. i go for the ones with the best rating. download a few have a listen and pick which ever one you like best :-D I agree MIlly they defo do make a diff. especailly if you do find it hard to get to sleep. that 10mins you get to relax is good. i find it hard to just relax when im in bed. my muscle are so tight all day i find they are like that when i go to bed so the hypnotherapy helps. i hope u find one u like and it works for u :-D x

I wake up every single night with my 3 year old daughter and I can rarely get back to sleep. It's not as if I'm thinking of anything intelligent or philosophical either. If it was then I wouldn't mind! I try cognitive behavioural therapy techniques, such as saying 'the' over and over again. It's supposed to help break flow of thought. I stopped taking amitripyline 10 months ago as a specialist told me it caused bloating. I think I'm going to need to go back on it though because even my herbal sleeping pulses have stopped working
Does anyone think it's anxiety that causes this?
