One pain after another

Postby judipat » Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:24 am

I am 54 years old and was diagnosed with fm about 4 years ago, but like a lot of you, think i had it for many years before. I have also suffered with bad anxiety problems.

I've been having a tough time lately accepting the pain and fatigue, also the insomnia (hence the time i'm writing this!!).
Last Oct, I had some dental work done which brought on TMJ - i suffered about 6 weeks of severe pain and found it very difficult to sleep, however, that has now subsided.
Christmas was'nt too bad, but since then, i've had this pain in my left shoulder, back and left arm. It frightened me to death at first - really thought my time was up!! its so painful, I'm finding it difficult to get comfy in bed or its waking me up. It feels like someone is stabbing me with a red hot knife in the shoulder, the upper arm is very sore to touch and also have shooting pains down my arm into my hand.
I suppose I just get so fed up, it seems one problem goes, only to be replaced with another - which I think must be very difficult for loved ones to understand - I can almost hear them saying "last week it was her jaw, now its her shoulder". I tend not to say too much!!
Anyway, I'm waffling now - just needed to vent!!

Hi Judi, sorry to hear you are suffering, have you tried the gel rubs for your arm and shoulder :?: they can give some relief plus adding a hottie bottle to the mix can sometimes help :fingerscrossed: it eases up soon :-D :-D

Hi Judipat,

So sorry to hear what you are going through. You really have my sympathy. I'm just 55 and was diagnosed a few years ago and although it wasn't too bad then it hasn't been so good lately and winter is always worse. It always seems that when one thing improves something else gets worse.

I also try not too complain too much, but I frequently sleep very little. If its not restless legs keeping me awake at night its hot flushes pain somewhere or other, or anxiety.

I've got a problem with my left shoulder too. I think it was a flare up following a cold virus. It has started to clear up after two months and I found a combination of lots of rest, chicken soup (with stock from boiled bones), ibuprofen and an increase in my amytriptyline all helped. However today, after thinking I had recovered I sneezed and accidently banged my elbow on the table and have had a return of the pain today. That is just weird, it was the side of my elbow I banged not my shoulder!
