Mammorgram Breast pain

Postby angelwings1 » Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:47 pm

Does anyone else here suffer with imense pain when having a Mammogram taken ? I'm fed up with the Radiographer telling me I'm being Silly. I had one or tried to have one done yesterday and nearly passed out with the pain :scream-1: :too-upset: . I was told I didn't have to have it done and when I asked about Ultrasound that fell on deaf ears. It appears my only option is to suffer this most terrbile pain or do without.....hardly fair I think :scream-1:

I know exactly what you mean ..my first experience was just like that with a very uncaring woman who had that same attitude. The second time couldn`t have been more diffwerent because then I knew what to expect so before we even started I told the receptionist about my experience so when I went in the two ladies waiting knew and were very sympathetic, one even holding my hand. I was told to let them know if it got too much to bear .....it didn`t hurt any less but is something that needs to be done but having a sympathetic ear made all the difference. I was advised then to take pain relief about 30 minutes before my appointment next time which they said should take the edge of it. The problem is if they don`t know about FMS they do think we are being wet nellies because `normal women` I have spoken to about it said its more of a discomfort than pain .....and that says everything doesn`t it!! Good luck next time and please don`t give up on it as the consequences don`t bear thinking about

Thanks Carole. This has been the 4th one done and each time it gets worse. I can stand pain but not this I ended crying and screaming and not one of them was sympathetic. I informed them prior to arival that I suffered with FM, this was not passed on to them. I fully expect to be re-called as the pics were not clear. I'm not on any mediation as I appear to be tablet intollerant and have side affects on everything I've been prescribed, Paracetamol is useless and can't take most pain killers due to high blood pressure and medication for that. I really dont think I can go through it again. I would rather have my teeth pulled without anesthectic

I had my first mammogram last year. Not a pleasant experience! It was very painful but luckily I didn't have unsympathetic people doing it like you experienced, which did help relax me if nothing else.

Thanks Monica

I think it very unfair that not only do we all suffer awful pain everyday that we have to be tortured like this...I say tortured because that's how it feels to me. I would have agreed to anything yesterday when I was having the mammogram. Our only option is not to have it done and that's not fair. We need to lobby somebody, but then, if they don't reconise FM they are never going to offer us an alternative are they. I would love to stick a mans bits in a clamp and tell them it doesn't hurt

Don't be put off as we are all different and I happen to have rather large boobs which are lumpy so that does'nt help one either as it just adds to the problem x

Mammorgram Breast pain

Postby Morgana » Thu Feb 28, 2013 6:30 pm

Ode to a Mammogram

For years and years they told me, "Be careful of your breasts."
Don't ever squeeze or bruise them, and give them monthly tests.

So, I heeded all their warnings.....and protected them by law....
Guarded them very carefully, and always wore a bra.

After 10 years of careful care, the doctor found a lump.
He ordered up a mammogram to look inside that clump.

"Stand up very close," the nurse said, as she got my tit in line,
"And tell me when it hurts," she said. "Ah, yes....that's just fine."

She stepped upon a pedal....I could not believe my eyes,
A plastic plate was pressing down....My boob was in a vice....

My skin was stretched and stretched from way up by my chin,
And my poor tit was being squashed to Swedish pancake thing......

Excruciating pain I felt, within it's vice-like grip,
A prisoner in this vicious thing.....My poor defenseless tit......

"Take a deep breath" she said to me. Who does she think she's kidding?
My chest is smashed in her machine, I can't breathe and woozy I am getting!

"There, that was good" I heard her say, as the room was slowly swaying.
"Now let's get the other one."........"Lord have mercy," I was praying.

It squeezed me from the up and down, it squeezed me from both sides,
I'll bet she never has this done to HER tender little hide.

If I had no problem when I first came in, I surely have one now......
If there had been a cyst in there, it would have popped Ker-Pow!

This machine was made by a MAN, of this I have no doubt.....
I'd like to get his balls in there.....for months he'd go WITHOUT!

Absobloomin` brilliant! :-D

I always say the only way to get ready for a mammogram is to practice....... so I lie down on the garage floor and get someone to drive a landrover over them, one at a time!
