oh my legs !!!!!

Postby ouchiemama » Fri Apr 26, 2013 9:44 am

My legs are sooo sore, like jelly but also like lead, buzzing, throbbing, durling!!

I am on ami 40mg at night and 2 solpadol 30/500 4 times a day - which I think are helping my back & shoulders as they still hurt but not as bad all the time like before... but my legs have now taken over in the pain department & im just so fatigued no matter how much or little sleep I have, its always broken anyway by trips to the loo & crazy vivid dreams!!

 Has anyone got any advice on what I can do to ease them as Im seriously struggling with it! I just wanna chop them off!!

Sorry its a bit of a rant but am hoping someone here understands & even if you dont have a solution to know that someone knows what Im on about will be a help in itself.

xx
Oh and Ive not been diagnosed yet by rheumy, still waiting for appt but doc thinks its fibro so is treating me as if it is.

Does this sound typical of fibro??

Thanks in advance for any replies..

Oh bless you! I'm 33 and had fibro for about 2 1/2 years and my main problem has always been my legs! I'm afraid I haven't found anything yet that helps :( I have good days/bad days and like you days when I would chop them off! I'm still trying out new medications but I do have a massage every week! And I think without it my legs would be beyond help!!!! Heat helps too. I'm currently looking into investing in a BioMat! They use infrared heat technology and they are amazing!!! Worth looking into. I cannot describe how it feels other than I'm in love!!!!!!!!!!

    Hiya,
Lower back pain is the constant with me, but I have neck, knee, hip, ankle and foot pain that comes and goes.
No matter what I take the pain does not go, but is eased by painkillers.
Unfortunately its a learn to live with pain!
    Hope you get relief soon.
    Gentle hugs.

I had a very similar problem last night - hot bath didn't help, nor massage nor ibuprofen but, I did get up at 2am and took 2 Kalms (herbal) tablets and, whether it's a coincidence or not, they are a lot easier now - hip pain's still there on the right but the excruciating leg pains are much easier, almost non existent. Don't know whether you've tried Kalms - I use them to help relax - not regularly. But I'm sure they did something last night to help me.

Sorry to hear about the problems with your legs. I used to have very painful legs almost all the time, it felt like there was massive air pressure on my legs like it was crushing them. However, I was prescribed Duloxetine by my Rheumatologist and as soon as I started taking them it stopped, now the problem is very rare, maybe a day or two a month max. You can start at 20mg a day and go to 60mg and my Specialist Pharmacist wants me to go higher. Obviously there is no guarantee that you have the same problem, or that Duloxetine would work with you but I thought I would mention it. It's an off licence use of the drug but you can still get it, just be aware that its mainly used to help stress incontinence in older women, when I first go mine my pharmacist gave me a funny look and asked me to go into the consultation room, the following conversation was very very funny and we laughed about the whole thing (although he was a great guy). You can take with Amitryptaline with it too (although there may be a theoretical risk of Seratonin Syndrome but I'm not 100%, I take them both and its fine.) Also they would probably be happy with stepping your Amitryptaline up to 75mg/day and some specialists go higher but I think its 75mg max in the BNF.

The only other thing I find that helped was a warm bath, afterwards I used to put long johns or a long tubiegrip bandage on them (just one layer) to help keep them warm. I think it may be down to bad circulation but I am not sure. I wish you all the luck I can in getting it sorted and I it was one of my more worse symptoms when I had it.

    Take good care

Please be very careful when taking OTC additional treatments alongside meds, either prescribed or OTC as there is always the possibility of interactions, even with herbal varieties. It's always best to check with a pharmacist or GP that things are suitable to be taken together, just to be sure.

I've also had problems with my legs and am still having them, esp when things are particularly tense/stressful. Laid in agony at daft o'clock, chopping them off seems a perfectly rational way to deal with them, as does dipping them into liquid nitrogen to cool them down     I quite often wonder if my legs have been swapped for someone else's as there's no way my own can possibly feel like these strange ones do

It's not unusual for OH to get up for work in a morning and there be wires poking out from under me and the covers from the latest addition to my FM toolkit, a TENs machine. It doesn't make the hurty go away, but does help ease things back a little so I can get out of bed and get moving around and make an attempt at playing as a Domestic Goddess, in my mind at least :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

We also have a leccie blankie on the bed as well, the type that can be left on all night, that helps a little as well with stopping me ceasing up completely, plus it has seperate controls and temperatures for body and feet areas which I alter as needed, depending on how I am.

I also live for my baths, esp as I was bought some rather nice and natural bubbly baths and soaps and lotions quite recently that don't irritate my skin :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: Rather than just being something I have to do to get clean, my nightly bath has become another important and rather indulgent part of my toolkit :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing: :bear-dancing:

    Hi ouchie

I get my worst pain in my legs and feet and some days it can feel like I've ran a marathon when all I've done is got out of bed lol.

I'm taking co codamol and tramadol (prescribed strength) which does help keep the pain bearable but there are days where they don't even nudge the pain.

I swear by my baths like Fluppy and electric blanket in the bed. I also use hot water bottles on my legs (I line them up lol) which does help instantly and eases the pain and stiffness. Just make sure you don't put them on bare legs and you have a towel/blanket betwen the bottles and your legs to avoid burning them.

For my feet (but also helps my legs) I use a vibrating foot spa. It has different settings for the vibrations and a heat option and I find popping my feet in there for 15-20 minutes while I watch the telly helps ease my feet and legs after a long day.

    Hope that helps ouchie.

Thank you so much for all the replies :-D

Ahh I would love a bath but unfortunatly only have a shower...i am seriously considering getting a bath put in though!

I did stand in it today holding the shower over my legs - still clothed on my top half, as I really couldnt stand the thought of having it all over me & having to get dried - bit weird but hey, lol!! It helped for a bit!

Il search out a hot water bottle, sure I have one somewhere! & i will read over the replies again tomorrow when I can concentrate better..been a long day, in bed now

    Thanks again :-D
