Who do I turn to now?

Postby Gizmo01 » Tue May 21, 2013 11:11 pm

Hi I've been in constant pain for 5 months in my shoulders neck back and ribs so much so I'm a shadow of my former self my marriage has suffered, I don't really sleep and when I do I get really bad night sweats and wake up soaked and the headaches are so bad :( . I went to see my specialist today hoping he would help as my docs don't no what to do for me and firstly he didn't want to listen to what I had to say he gave me an injection in the joint in my sholder which is killing me even now it hurts so much anyway he basically said all I can do is to exercise, exercise, exercise! Urmmmmm that I can't do as it cripples me as I told him and he said I just have to get used to the pain then maybe in 5 years I might be able to live with it??? Then what the hell am I suppose to do I'm getting to the point I just want to give up but my 3 kids keep me sane but there is only so much I can take and I've had enough of it all :-| thanks for listening to my rant I just needed to get it off my chest to people who understands what it's like to be me x

Hi Gizmo and sorry you ended up with such a rotten appointment, sometimes I think we wait so long for them to come round we end up expecting to go in, explain how things are and have them listen and even if they cant help much, just have them listen and take things seriously and when it doesnt happen (most of the time :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: ) we come out really deflated and wondering what is the point

Sometimes we have to admit that we are going to get little help from some health professionals and we have to find our own way through. Hopefully once the pain from the injection wears off you will get some benefit from it and that will help you get over the negative opinion of the consultant. Maybe looking at some of the meds and combination of meds people on here are using and talking through the possibility of you trying some of them with your doc is a possibility :?: :?: :?: :?:

hi sweety,
it is such a horrible feeling when the specialist brush us off isn't it, I would advice to go back to your gp and explain how the specialist made you feel and ask if you could be referred to a diferent consultant/specialist I had a similar experience and spoke with my gp and agreed to refer to another consultant/specialist x keep ya chin up and stay strong I know it's hard sometimes rest when you can try and ask for help off some of your family if they are understanding xx gentle hugs Teresa xx if you have a facebook account can I recommend you go to uk fibromyalgia private group, you will get lots of support and help from other fellow sufferers aswell xx

I read so much on here about medical professionals not being understanding and sympathetic (not that we need sympathy). Fibromyalgia exists and is a medical condition like so many others .... arthritis etc so a bit more understanding, support and acknowledgement to our suffering would go a long way.
I am with you all the way of not knowing what to do next. Feel frustration and exhausted of trying to make people understand the pain I have and how real it is ....
sometimes I sit and think "God is this all in my head"

I am sorry that you are having a rough time with things.

I sometimes wonder if we expect too much from our Dr's. We go in thinking we are going to receive some cure or at least some medication or treatment that will take it all away. We expect some form of comfort, understanding. Our Dr's can't get emotionally involved with patients so they come across as cold.

Our Dr's have no cure for fibro. How can they possibly have an answer to something that patients present different symptoms and medication and treatments that work for one does not work for all. I feel they must have as much frustration as we do. They don't intentionally try to dismiss us they just don't know what else to do.

A Dr of mine who has fibromyalgia told me I am going to live a painfully long life. How i enjoy life is entirely up to me. I can do my best to control my symptoms with medication and excercise or I can sit back, feel sorry for myself and live a painfully miserable life.

I feel my life is good. I know this pain is not likely to disappear. I will push myself but stop when my body says stopi will try to see the good things in my life and not dwell on what was. We can only expect Dr's to try their best at treating and understanding us.

I wish we could all be rid of this. I can relate to you all but I would never insinuate that I know how you feel. I don't, we all have our own journey and relationship with fibro. All I can give is hugs, love and understanding to you all.

I thought I would tell you some things that have helped me. First, having night sweats indicates that you might benefit from HRT, you may be perimenopausal. Second, I found giving up sugar, especially cane sugar helped my pain a lot, it's worth a try. I also take cod liver oil daily and I take magnesium malate. I get the one made by Biocare which is available from Amazon. I recently ran out of magnesium malate and all my pain came back. I don't know whether you have tried any of these things and everyone is different, but these things have helped me so that I now have hardly any pain.

Rothesay.... I agree with you. Giving up sugar, caffeine as well as HRT has helped sweats...they definitely were menopausal, even at 40.

Also, having a complete work up on your thyroid, some symptoms of fibro or menopause are the same as thyroid issues
