Yes, definitely.

I have been diagnosed with Fibro and ME (often called CFS, although they have no been proven to be different conditions) and I know a lot of sufferers end up being diagnosed with both.

Try asking your GP for a referral to a CFS clinic/specialist who can officially diagnose you.

The CFS Service I was under worked on the basis that they were 2 separate entities as well. The focus of what was covered was on the CFS side tho, and I have that as my dx rather than the ME one.

Looking at the differences between the 2 conditions tho http://www.hfme.org/comparisonchart.htm whilst the CFS dx is definitely more apt for me, there are also some aspects of ME that I also have. No wonder it's such a       associated condition

I agree its a yes to this one, my GP explained it as being two ends of the same spectrum so there is bound to be overlap in some cases :-D :-D :-D

That's interesting, evie15, as I was always led to understand that Fibro is an auto-immune disease (same family as RA, Lupus etc); CFS is just that - a fatigue syndrome; and ME is a neurological condition.

How on earth are we supposed to get anywhere when different professionals tell us all different things? :yikes:

I'm sure I've read recently that the medical profession have now agreed that they are definitely different.

However, I think I have also read that doctors were told to always refer to it as CFS and not to use ME on any paperwork or anything. I always refer to it as ME, but my GP insists on putting CFS on my certificate etc! Soooo frustrating!

(On a slight side-note, what was particularly disconcerting for me recently was when I had a blood test done by the practice nurse and she had to ask me what CFS stands for as she had been sat there for ages trying to work it out and couldn't think what on earth it could be!! How nice to know the professionals involved in our care are so clued up about things!!!!!!!!)

That last sentence is exactly how I feel!!

I always thought they were different but overlapped, but then the CFS dr said they were the same. Personally I have no clue!

I have always been told by my Dr's that.....fibromyalgia....CFS.....ME ........are all completely an illness on their own.

They may share some symptoms but are not the same.

That's what I thought.

My GP treats the Fibro and ME as 2 separate, but overlapping, things, but insists on calling the ME CFS. He also obviously feels much more comfortable dealing with the Fibro, and obviously has more knowledge and/or experience of Fibro, so seems to concentrate is energies on the Fibro. I have to keep reiterating that it is, in fact, the ME symptoms that are dominant at the moment!

I'm sure none of us would feel half as ill as we do if the medical profession understood and recognised how are are feeling. :yikes:
