Itching & not sleeping

Postby Fibro Fi » Sat Jul 27, 2013 12:14 am

Hi all,
For the past few nights I've been itching all over with no signs of a rash. On reflection, its been happening for quite a while but just not so frequently. Does anyone else have this?

Also, my not sleeping is defiantly getting worse. I'm now on my 4th night in 3 weeks where I just cannot get to sleep despite 30 mg of amitriptyline and clonazepam. Today I've been really pushing myself as had lots to do so have been in quite a lot of pain. I was actually feeling nauseas with tiredness at10 pm. It's now midnight and I'm wide awake. Have just taken an antihistamine and my clonazepam (dr dies not want me taking them too often) so hopefully it won't be an all nighter! What other drugs are people taking to aid sleep? Its really getting me down especially as I know I have lots to do tomorrow :(

On the plus side, I saw a nutritionist who specialises in FMS and CFS. I'm going to have some tests for my adrenals, candida and mitochondria. My GP also wants another thyroid check and white blood cell count. My pulse was 124! So, it will be interesting to see the results!

This year there have been so many new symptoms. Do others find this has happened as time has gone on?

Enough now, thanks for reading!

Fi.

When is the last time your GP checked your liver function? Being on a lot of meds can cause problems with the liver functioning and that is very likely to result in itching all over, as the toxins, which are normally filtered by the liver, collect up under your skin, causing it to itch profusely xx

It may also be a reaction to the heat and sweating. My DS had that the other day and he did not present a major rash with it, either. Additional calcium worked really well for him.

Hi, I itch constantly all over but especially on my back and upper arms. I had an infection of the hair follicles on my back the other week but antibiotics cleared it up. My GP gave me Hydroxyzine 10mg. They are supposed to be taken at night only because they are a sedative as well as an antihistamine. They are very good at stopping the itching, I just wish the sedative part would work! I never sleep more than two hours at a time and always am wide awake every night. This has been going on now for about six years! Hope yours improves soon. Take care x

I too suffer from severe itching and my liver function was tested. It was normal and the itching remains unexplained. It ahppens more at night and drives me mad. I find myself sore because I have scratched so much.

I suffered with this badly earlier in the year, it felt like severe prickly heat and crawling sensations under the skin. Although I've suffered from eczema off & on throughout my life, this was totally different itch and at points it was like someone putting needles under my skin!! :yikes: As a result I was hardly sleeping. The skin would go red where I scratched and I would bruise through scratching. It is truly awful and I really sympathize with you.

Thankfully although I still get this a little, it has calmed down significantly. I take amytriptaline at night, have been put on an extra-strong antihistamine and use betnovate ointment where it flares. Also moisturise whole body daily.

I think that it is over-responsive histamine reacting in the skin, as I gather many folk with fibro suffer similar symptoms.

Fibro Fi.........I am glad you are having your thyroid checked. As many know I have had thyroid issues. I itch like crazy when my levels are out. No rash, no discomfort with it, just itchy arms, legs, everywhere.

are fibro sufferers known to have thyroid problems ?????
I have had mine checked in the past and it was fine but is this considered a reason for the itching or am I misunderstanding what I've read.
Itching certainly seems to be something that fibro sufferers suffer from :?:

Binty.....some people with fibro have thyroid issues but so do people without it. I would not think it is a symptom, if you get thyroid problems it isn't due to fibro. I never thought my itchiness was thyroid ubtil I got thyroid cancer and lost my thyroid. With the meds now, if they are out then I get very itchy.

The reason I suggested getting your levels checked is because being itchy is a symptom of thyroid disease and also diabetes. I would make sure you tell your GP because being itchy can be a symptom of various things.

Glad I'm not going mad. I get really severe itching that no amount of scratching gets rid of. I usually end end up scratching until I bleed. Yesterday however my right leg under my jeans was so bad. I now have a collection of bruises 3 by 3 inches. So flipping painful x

I thought it was just me! I itch whenever I go to bed. Its so annoying. I do drift off to sleep though and it never wakes me up. I am on 20mg Amitriptyline x
I am a fibro fighter not a fibro sufferer. I will keep fighting from the minute I get up til the minute I go to bed.
