Fibro or not?

Postby ouch potato » Thu Jan 02, 2014 3:21 pm

Hello all, I haven't posted for a long time now. I was dx with fibro about 2 years ago by a locum dr, but the regular dr then dismissed the dx. I am waiting for a second MRI to confirm ankylosing spondylitis, I have osteoarthritis in several places, a ruptured disc... but I still feel I have fibro too.

I have several symptoms which can't be attributed to arthritis - I have several of the tender spots, mainly around my lower back/outside hip and thigh area (I can't bear ANY pressure on them whatsoever), tender points on inside of knees, widespread tissue pain as opposed to bone and joint pain, severe fatigue, brain fog, trouble sleeping despite me being exhausted.

Does it sound like fibro? Do I ask rheumatologist? Or do I just plod along and hope the treatment they eventually decide on for arthritis helps the fibro?

If you feel that some of what you experience symptom and problem~wise is FM related, then going for a referral to a rheumy, or other suitable specialist who deals with such conditions, may be the best plan of action for you. Waiting to see if meds for arthritis could be of help could turn into quite a long and painful experience as, whilst some of the meds used for arthritis may be helpful for FM, unfortunately there isn't a guarantee that they definitely will. And should it be found that you do definitely have FM in the mix, you could find that a few little tweaks and changes to your current cocktail help bring some relief to some of your other problems as well as FM.

We couldn't say whether or not you have FM as we aren't qualified to do so. If you still think its fibro then yes ask for a second opinion via a rhuematologist

Hi there you & I could be twins as I've also had ruptured disc twice along with drop foot which meant I needed spinal operation's two in 11mths! You have fibro but probably also bursitis on ur hip bones if pressed r agony too. I get steriod injections into hips every 3-6 mths from rheumatologist
