Pressure pain in chest going up to throat!!

Postby Tel1 » Mon May 19, 2014 9:40 pm

Hi All

Some days, but not all the time, I get this pressure pain sensation that goes from my chest up to my throat, I have been to the
A&E several times, and seen doctors galore and they just say it is anxiety.. but whilst I am sort of pleased when these doctors and consultants say this, I still get it too often to feel at ease :yikes:
I have seen heart specialists several times, had heart scans, stress tests, CT scans, radio active dye put in me so they can scan my heart etc... and yet they *say* all is well.. that is good to know.. But when I was in hospital for a night with one of these episodes, one of the doctors on his morning rounds came up to me and asked how I was feeling ( like they do ) and I went on to tell him about what I keep having.. and he was looking through my notes and listening to what I was saying and then said to me, Have you got Fibromyalgia?
and at that time back 3 years ago, I didn't know what Fibromyalgia was... suffice to say last years after extensive tests blood tests galore, neurology, A&E several times and then finally rheumatology they told me that I had Fibro....obviously like the rest of you I also get all the other things that we all get, the tiredness, the aching, the IBS, feeling down, sometimes feel off balance, but I don't think anyone has mentioned about what I have just said about this pressure pain that I keep getting.... if any of you get this, then I would dearly love to know.... but it was strange that the doctor at the hospital doing his rounds on the wards when I was in there, and they asked me questions, that he came up with Fibromyalgia straight away....thanks everyone:))
What a life we lead eh:)) it gets me down a lot as I am certainly not the same person I use to be.... :yikes:

Can't say I've ever experienced this but I do get chest pains of all sorts. Sometimes it feels like someone is squeezing on my heart, or sometimes it can feel like someone is sitting on my chest, and sometimes the bones or muscles physically ache and hurt and it will hurt to talk, cough, sneeze, etc.

The pressure up to throat I don't know :/

I get something that sounds similar... Like a build up of pressure as if you want to belch. It starts in my ribs and moves up to just below my throat and is very uncomfortable. I assume mine is costochondritis. I had severe chest pains that led to a hospital admission once that they said was unstable angina. Tests showed my heart was fine - no angina, and my gp later diagnosed fibro and suggested the chest pain was costo, exacerbated by my panicking when the pain got bad and I became breathless. It's manageable now I know it isnt my heart and I no longer panic over it. However, if this is something new to you, I would tell your doctor as not all symptoms are fibro related. Hope you find answers soon x

This sounds exactly like something I experience. I have had heart tests and have been given the all clear. The pain starts in the middle of my chest and goes right up into my throat. It is good to hear that someone else has experienced this. I may look into this to see if I can find any references to the pain and fibro!

I get this on occasions and it feels as if you maybe have angina. I take a good dose of milk of magnesia or gaviscon it does the trick. as soon as you start to feel it coming on give it a try. I know it is very painfull. Good luck.

I suffer from eptopic heartbeats and at the moment its really bad as iv been overdoing things and my anxiety has flared with stress. This agrivtes them apparently.

Anyways i get this pressure that i feel in my chest then goes up to the throat but it accompanies a thud or a flutter from the heart.

Someone has already suggested this, but it could be indigestion. The reason for thinking this is that i have a friend who gets something similar and when she does it is so bad that she cannot speak or catch her breath properly and she looks like she is having a heart attack.

Am I the only one who has suffered this with you? The first time it happened I was sure I was having a heart attack but the sensation only lasted a few minutes. When I told my GP about it later that week he said I should have called an ambulance and that if it happened again I should do that. He sent me for blood tests and an urgent ECG but everything was fine. It has happened a few times since. The pain is unbelievable but because I knew it wasn't a heart attack I haven't seen anyone about it since. You have my sympathy. :( Kate

:welcome: to our FibroFamily Kate :cow-wave: :cow-wave: :cow-wave:

When this pain appears, it might be worth making a note about it, such as where you were and what you were doing when it occurred, what you were eating and drinking at the time, if applicable, the situation you were in/dealing with, how you were feeling {tense or relaxed, nervous or calm etc} as it might help with seeing if there are any things in common each time you experience it.

I agree it sounds like acid reflux. When I first started with the problem the paramedics and ambulance were sent out to me, as they thought I was having an heart attack. The acid from my stomach burnt an hole in my esophagus.

I couldn't believe it at first that stomach problems could cause the symptoms of chest pain, back pain and pain down my left arm. Ask your GP for Lanzoprzole or Omrozole which will ease the problem.

Another stress related illness yet again.

Hi, I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with FM..I too have had exactly what uve described. In fact it was about 10 days ago I was rushed into A & E with the same symptoms :( Strange thing was , the emergency paramedic said his friend has FM and that they have chest pains almost similar to a heart attack. .Finally the hospital said my heart etc was fine and that it must be due to the FM
The problem with that symptom is, what if we were having a heart attack and just thought it was FM ?

Hope you don't suffer too much. Your not alone remember Hugz xox

Thanks all:))

It seems we kind of all have the same sort of thing, but of course when it happens to each of us, no doubt we all think we are alone suffering with this sort of thing.... :yikes:

Sometimes, I just think I am going totally insane with the constant feelings and frustrations.... however when I have been to the hospitals about these sorts of episodes they tell me that it is not my heart.. so that's one good thing... but the trouble is, that I long with some of you, we have to endure it with no real diagnosis what it really is...:)) I want to jet off to New York, but I wont as I am worried that I will have an attack in mid-flight :yikes: that thought is very daunting as the pilot can't just take a steep dive and get
me to the ground half way across the Atlantic... frightening thought eh:)) Thanks all for the responses. :-)
