Raised esr again

Postby Leannellie » Sat Jul 19, 2014 3:15 pm

Hi everyone. Not been on here for a while due to feeling so rubbish. Doc phoned me this morning to tell me my esr was raised again!!?? Does anyone know what this means? He's put me on steroids to see if they will bring it down. I'm in constant pain and have really had enough. Got given a blue badge yesterday!! I'm 45 and feel like 95!!!!!!

If you are getting raised ESR, your Doctor needs to find the cause of inflammation, as that is not really an FMS symptom (very little inflammation in FMS)

What have you been diagnosed with so far?

Just fibro. I'm not convinced tho. Unlike some-most I didn't have a lot of tests to rule everything else out, not even the pressure point test. Was diagnosed by rheumy at Poole hospital last year and basically told to get on with it. Been seeing physio at xchurch for last few months but just been discharged as there's nothing else they can offer me. I hurt so bad all over, my right forearm throbs as do my hips knees ankles. My brain is mush, I walk with crutches, could sleep for England. No longer drive as I don't feel safe so rely on my daughter to get me out. Totally fed up.

Raised ESR points to general inflammation in the body and this is NOT associated with fibromyalgia. One of the things they do to DX fibro is to rule OUT inflammatory disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc.

However sometimes ESR can be raised by something really simple like a cold or minor infection. But if it is persistently raised over a period of time it suggests something else is going on.

I think you should be asking your doctor what the cause of the inflammation is / WHY your ESR is high when fibro doesn't cause this.

The steroids will most likely help but doesn't actually tell you why you need them in the first place.

I hope you feel better soon.

You should ask your Doctor what the inflammation is from - don't let him fob you off that it is the FMS. If it keeps being raised, ask for another rheumy referral.

Hi. Iwas diagnosed with psoriatc arthritis about 10 years ago. Been treated for that for 8+ years until other weird stuff started bit by bit. My fibro specialist says I still have psoriatic arthritis but not active and raise esr level is osteo. Also hyper-mobility and have to go for MRI brain scan and see neurologist...it's like a very difficult jigsaw, FM, but not once has he said inflammation is to do with FM.So I would do as ladies who posted before me and ask for investigation into cause of raised esr. The problem is that there are so few Fibro specialists and we end up with rheumatology. We need to raise profile of FM...and that it is not all in the imagination!
Good luck!
