So Uncomfortable!

Postby JDWench » Tue Aug 05, 2014 1:18 am

I took my Amitriptyline around 8 in preparation to sleep at 11, I got in to bed about 11:30 and I am so uncomfortable! I do not know where to put myself! My right arm and hand feel like after you get pins and needles, I feel like I need to keep pressure on my fingers and keep clenching them and tensing my muscles. My toes are tingling and my legs feel the same as my arm. I can't lay still. It's driving me mad!

I've been suffering with itchiness and spider legs and arms for ages...drives me nuts too! Not sure if the itching is part of my fm though? Does anyone else suffer this? I am covered in scratches and sores now :-( Like you i also get the muscle tensing...i find if i hold onto a piece of cloth or hanky it helps...daft i know! Try and find things that comfort you, be it smells, pillows, blankets, a drink...anything that'll help you wind down really. Hope we all nod off soon. Sleep well X

Can commiserate, it's awful. Had bad day for no reason. I have felt itchy and achy. There was a post on here about "sausage" fingers and toes, that seems to apply to me. Have found these forums helpful and only looked couple days ago. It helps to know you aren't imagining these odd symptoms. Hope we all sleep soon

Fell asleep for about 45 minutes then woke up because I was digging my thumb nail in to my shoulder! Just had a fruit tea, hope the nice warm feeling helps. My boyfriend's just come to bed too so that's always comforting even if the extra body heat can sometimes be a bit icky. I took my usual 30mg Amitriptyline and 100mg tramadol hoping it might knock me out but I think on nights like this it's a matter of just riding it out. Hope you all get some sleep soon.

I have psoriatic arthritis as well as fm. Sausage fingers and toes are a symptom of this. It does not have a marker in the blood like normal rheumatiod arthritis.

So exhausted! Still suffering the horrendous pins and needles, I can hardly move my arm and my grip is questionable due to tingling I'm wearing a support which isn't much help. My right leg is so tingly I'm using my stick so I don't trip. My left leg is nowhere near as bad thankfully but my knee and hip joints are feeling cramped. I'm sat in the doctors waiting to discuss a blood test, couldn't get the good doctor, I'm seeing the one who doesn't read notes and just brushes everything off as a flare up as well as "giving out Amitriptyline like m&m" her words not mine. I have work after all this. I feel like I'm screaming in my own head!

I had very similar symptoms and the Doctor gave me Gabapentin increasing the dose over time. I now take 1 x 300 in the morning 2 x 300 teatime and 1 x 300 at bedtime. I could if necessary take another 2 daily. This has made my symptoms almost disappear and it only bothers me from time to time.

Hope this helps as I can sympathise with you

This morning was a disaster and that doctor is useless! She said blood tests are open to interpretation and the good doctor saw a problem but she didn't despite my sugar and b12 levels being low!

Same here :( Duly took the tramadol, amitryptiline and a sleeping tablet.
I do have an excuse though. It was my birthday yesterday so we went for a Cornish Cream tea and had a pizza in the evening. I was completely knackered as I cant usually do as much as that.

I paid for it this morning though. I could hardly get out of bed I hurt so much. Even my knuckles ached.

It was worth it as I had a good birthday, my first wheelchairbound, but wouldn't it be nice if just once we didn't have to put up with the pain and concrete legs on the following day?

Huge sympathies and I hope you feel better soon xx . :swear1: Not sleeping makes it so much worse doesn't it?

Edited to add to another poster, I find if I have to take more painkillers I get a load of itchiness. Maybe it's them?

yep exactly feel same itchiness and god the sweats that I get are horrendous, I take 100mg amitriptyline at 10pm and am dropping by 10.30 and go to bed fall asleep do not have a full beneficial sleep wake up at about 5am fall back wake up at 7am and am up feeling like I have had a hour max.
I then go to Morrisons with my dad in the car and then pop to see my brothers who have learning difficulties. I don't usually manage to walk round Morrisons and often go and sit on a bench or go to the car and wait.
I was told by GP, Consultant, Physio, Occupational health Pain management Specialist that in the warmer weather the pain is not as bad and you will be able to walk further it not changed anything in fact it made it worse
anybody else felt like this

It seems we're all paying for trying to lead normal lives, I find it heartbreaking when I have to be so careful or I feel too unwell to do things, I've been sent to a new counsellor who's trying to help me get my head around this before uni in September but I get so annoyed that I can't enjoy being young.
I'll be phoning and asking to speak with the good doctor Friday, he is very willing to help and accepts my conditions which is so refreshing, I never feel that I'm wasting his time.
I have been told the benefits of gabapentin by many people but I want to see if physio helps first. Trying to get physiotherapy is like trying to get blood from a stone! It's been 7 years since I was diagnosed with hms, I've had six years of pain and being poked, prodded, xrayed and disbelieved then 6 months ago I was diagnosed with fms as a secondary condition to hms and everything's been going steadily downhill. After all this I've finally got a date for the physio I wanted in the beginning
