Most ridiculous thing you've heard about Fibro...

Postby Zia2014 » Fri Aug 22, 2014 5:48 pm

Thought this might be a funny topic for a Friday night

So, what is the most unbelievable, ludicrous and out there comment you've heard said about Fibro?

My boring one to start is my lovely Occ Health doctor telling me that Fibro is just a sore neck. Wish he would get Fibro... ;-)

So, take it away folks... :-D

My personal favourite comes from a 55 year old woman at work who thinks because I'm young I don't deserve to be in pain "take a tablet and get over it" I hate her. She complains that her foot gets a little achy and so do her arms. My heart bleeds...

I had some random person I met casually tell me that she was sure I was just allergic to gold. She didn't seem to notice I wasn't even wearing any jewellery. She went on and on and on about how her granny or cousin or something had my exact problems (which I didn't even really get into with her! She just judged based on the fact I was walking with sticks and perhaps observing me with friends?) and anyway this relative of hers was cured because she simply stopped wearing gold.

Uh, yeah. Total crackpot.

The other one came from a really close friend, which is why it hurt when the other thing didn't. I told her I'd been diagnosed with Fibro. I was pretty emotional about it (we were chatting via Skype at the time, so she couldn't see that), and she said.. oh yeah, that seems to be the latest fad these days.

I was so angry. It was a year ago. We were best friends, and now I hardly talk to her because of her attitude.

Chocolate, Artificial Sweeteners and Fizzy drinks.

Apparently a friend of a friend stopped all of the above and was 'cured' .

Obviously because I have put on weight over the last few years I must be pigging out. When in actual fact I eat and drink less of the above than ever and far less than when I was at my healthiest.

This was what caused my fibromyalgia so hope you don't mind me throwing this in. Had glandular fever, my neck stuck out further than my ears.

Called out of hours gp who said
"I'm not coming out to a 28 year old with a stiff neck"

Got a lift to see her and was rushed into hospital

Wow, an allergy to gold and chocolate eh. Madness, all of it. I had forgotten that I was told my problems were all down to an allergy, by someone who doesn't have a medical degree!

It really proves how many people don't understand Fibro

Great topic to start the weekend. My doctor advised me to eat chocolate for my restless legs - Brilliant I thought, can I get it on prescription? - NO. Seriously though, it is frustrating when people have such reactions especially the medical profession. We have to laugh or we wouldn't survive.

:yikes: my gp told me that fibromyalgia was simply a sleeping disorder and if I had a good nights sleep all my aches and pains would go away ....to which I replied are you having a bubble wooohooo can't wait to tell all my fellow fm sufferers that all we need is sleeping tablets then we will all be cured NOT ... to which he replied my you are angry aren't you. time to find a new gp me thinks even though 99% thinks its all in our heads .

My GP, well one of the many that you get to see at the practise, never the same one twice, so useless continuity of care.
Asking me if I had claimed FM issues to be able to claim DLA.
When I looked at him, bit my tongue and said I would rather be well and be able to work, he shuffled his papers and said, well you know it's not really an illness don't you !!!!!!
