Isn't about time that the NHS and GP surgerys woke up!!

Postby Tel1 » Thu Nov 13, 2014 10:11 pm

Hi All

As many of you will know that although Fibro has been classed just as bad as MS flare ups and that Fibro
is a long term condition....you never seem to see Fibro listed as a long term condition which is in the
top 6 of conditions as a terrible long term health issues... Most GP practices just list Asthma, COPD
Osteoarthritis, Heart Conditions, Parkinson's Disease ... whereas Fibro never ever gets a look in.
So I think it is about time that WE start writing to the health minister and bring all this to light.

Naturally of course.... NONE of us want to have MS but Fibro is also on the list of elimination for MS,
so if Fibro mimics the symptoms of MS then why doesn't Fibro patients get the same assistance and
help that MS people do? I have been told so many times by doctors and consultants over the years
that ( most ) people who have all the symptoms and signs of MS... when they are put in an MRI scanner
then nothing shows up, ( and yet you can have the same symptoms ) so if doctors and consultants know
this and then you get diagnosed with Fibro... so then why do we all get a down graded condition that
isn't as bad as MS ? I know several people who have had MS since they were in their 20s... and yet 30
years on they are still up and running and not going down hill as rapidly as it was first thought they would,
and yet with Fibro.... we have to endure near enough the same symptoms and go through hell trying to
tell everyone that we are not well ( when we have flare ups ) but Fibro is not thought of as a * dreadful *
condition to many people or the NHS and health ministers.....I think it is about time that we emailed
the health minister or the old boys club in London who make the decisions to realise that Fibro is a terrible
long term health issue once and for all......the trouble is... who is going to start the ball rolling?? As with all
things like this it usually takes everyone to all hold hands to make a decision, so that is what We must do
so that we are recognised as having a long term condition which apparently there is no cure. :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

a petition as how we will all get the papers to sign as we only type to each other on here?:))

All though i do not mind signing your petition in support for all of us - all the other conditions you mentioned will eventually lead to death, whereas Fibro does not and that is probably why it is not in the top 6.

I'm in. My sister in law suffers with relapse and remitting MS. It is awful for her but she says she'd rather have MS than FM. She can see how badly affected I am with it. It really should be taken more seriously. I had never even heard of FM before I got diagnosed with it yet everyone knows all the others. It's about time it had more awareness. It has completely robbed my life. I have given up going out, working, socialising because I'm in so much pain, and the fatigue is crippling.
Lets get this ball rolling and really try to make a difference.

Please don't be offended...but....have you thought about what you actually want to achieve with this petition? If it is just to 'raise awareness' in the general public, do you think petitioning a Health Minister will do anything to achieve that goal? Or if you want your GP to be more supportive...can the Health Minister really do anything about that?

For a petition to be effective, it needs to be something that the Minister has control over and it has to be a specific goal. What EXACTLY do you want the Minister to do?

Even if you did succeed in raising awareness, would this really make any difference to your life? Whether someone 'understands' my pain or fatigue is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned; even if they do have some understanding, it makes no difference to me....I am still tired, I am still in pain. So I think it is better just to leave other people to think what they want and put your energy into looking after yourself :)

I know my response is different from all the others here, but I thought it was worth raising an alternative viewpoint. I just think it would be a shame if people put a lot of effort and energy into setting up a petition that will have no effect. If you really want to do it, have a good think about something specific you want the Minister to do - something that will actually make a difference to your life.

Hi. I've just signed a petition to make GP's and the Gov. aware that Fibro is a real illness. I'll try and put the link here for those interested. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/696/641/ ... romyalgia/
Sorry about this, I can't seem to get this to work and my hubbies gone to bed. (As usual, I'll be up for another 3-4 hours!) Well as you can see, there is a petition going around. Maybe someone with a lot more pc sense than me, can work out how to put this link on here properly. Thanks.
