Bad day

Postby weavingheart » Sat Dec 20, 2014 1:23 pm

Do any of you 'just' have fm? I've been diagnosed for nearly three years now and started on tramadol this week (my gp switched me from co codamol) and it really helped for a couple of days. I'm now on the full dose and already the pain is breaking through, affecting my sleep and I'm getting down for the first time since diagnosis. I find it difficult not to give myself a hard time because I've 'only' got fm, not anythg else that could cause pain so think I should be able to manage the pain with the amount of drugs I'm on (also take pregabalin and duloxetine as well as sumatriptan for migraine). I spawns seen by the pain clinic but they discharged me because there was nothing else they could do for me. Is this it? Will it just get worse and worse with me being on increasingly higher doses of pain relief. Sorry for the self pity, I must be having a bad day. This forum helps loads, thank you.

Hi, I got FM as a result of a car accident so although r I have spinal injuries I "just" have FM and I'm on oxycodone, gabapentin, naproxen paracetamol - tramadol doesn't even come close! So yes, ask to be referred to a pain management clinic for chronic pain. You need long term options and you can't just keep upping dosages! Gabapentin helps quite a lot of people but I swear by the combo I'm on - each one works on a slightly different pain receptor so you get a broad sweep of pain relief, which really is beneficial as some do muscular but not nerve etc etc so even though you're maxed out you're still in pain!

Yes, I think going back to the pain clinic is a good idea. The combo of meds I'm on clearly isn't working!

i 'just' have FM and don't take any meds other than paracetamol and ibuprofen. Haven't done since it started about 4 years or so ago.

I have arthritis and an underactive thyroid too so not just fm. I see a rheumatologist twice a year unless I need him more often. I also have a specialist nurse. Although the rheumy sorts out the medical side of things, I am currently trying to help myself too. I've recently started taking extra vitamins and doing research in ways to help myself. I'm 35 so got many more years to live with this thing, so I'm going to make the best of it! Don't worry about self pity. I have it on bad days too xxx
