I just created a new post about my issues with my hands and wrists. I am intrigued to know about some of your experiences - particularly those of you who have had carpal tunnel surgery and not found it to be of any help! What made your Doctors go ahead with the surgery? Had you already had a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia or were your hand symptoms part of your diagnosis?

I had a carpal tunnel operation on my left hand after my Fibromyalgia diagnosis. I had a test done on me that showed my carpal tunnel was very bad on my left and mild on my right. I was experiencing loads of pain, pins and needles and cramps in my hand and arm. It frequently woke me up at night.
The consultant said that the operation might or might not help as he could not determine how much of my pain was down to my carpal tunnel and how much to my Fibro. When he operated on my left hand he found the nerve was completely crushed.
Since having the operation the pins and needles have lessened although they have not gone away completely.
However, I now have quite severe different pain in both hands. On the hand that was operated on my little finger has very little strength left in it and both hands are very painful as is my right wrist.
I don't think I am going ahead with the operation on my right hand - at least not unless I get loads of pins and needles and cramps in it.
It was probably worth getting my left hand done but I am not sure how much of the remaining pain is due to the carpal tunnel and how much is due to Fibro. I suspect that most of it is down to the Fibro.
I underwent loads of procedures on my feet because they thought that I had Plantar Fascitis but I don't (or at least only mildly). I suffer from Fibro pains in my feet that are unbearable and the pains in my hands are similiar.
Hope this long post helps!

Thank you for that Lizashfield! It's very helpful. It reassures me that the specialists/hand surgeons are right not to operate. My nerve conduction tests were completely normal, unlike your own, and I also do not wake up at night. I think I just have to accept that it is best not to undergo the procedure unnecessarily and risk further complications, I also have to stop clinging to the hope that it would be a cure! :( I hope that you find something to help give you relief from all the pain.
