Itching is driving me mad, HELP!!!!!

Postby janetbooboo » Fri Nov 25, 2016 1:44 pm

Hi to everyone, I haven't been on the forum much lately, but would be very grateful of any advice. I am itching all over, mostly waste up. I have had this a fair while but has recently got so bad. I went to see my gp a while back and was given anti histamines. I cant say they did very much but I still take them. I have another appointment to go back this afternoon because its driving me bonkers. I am going to ask for an allergy test and vitamin deficiency test too as I'm thinking it could be something I am lacking. When the itching is at its worst, my hair falls out a lot too, which is very distressing. Any help tips or advice would be brilliant thankyou. Jan.xxxx :-D

Janet

I have the same problem, but it's been with me for some time and is something of a mystery. There can be so many reasons including skin problems, hormonal changes, parasites, allergies as you say, underlying illnesses and side effects of medication. You might be able to eliminate some of these by changing soap, washing powder & rinse cycle, clothes, staying away from pets for example

http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Itching/Pages/Causes.aspx

Whilst your GP is the best person to eliminate most of these, they could send you to see a specialist.

A GP thought I may have folliculitis recently and gave me some antibiotics. Whilst it got rid of some of the infected spots it hasn't solved the problem.

I've had the same for years. I first found out that it happened after eating cheese. Cut that out, then it was all cheese products. Soft cheese, cottage cheese, quark etc. Then after making a rice pudding, it was milk. I haven't been to my gp because I've worked it out for myself. Even ice cream, and I was itching like mad. Keep a food diary, and eliminate the products. Good luck. It isn't easy. There's no substitute for a good mature cheese. I use oat milk which is ok. Hope this helps.

I had to stay off work this week after waking up covered in hives. Thinking back I have had lesser episodes for some time -the doc reckons mine was more stress related so I got steroids to calm my nervous system and anti histamine and something else ( I live in France and so don't catch everything) two days later no hives, no itching and a lot calmer

It us horrible so do take care

Another Hives & Angeiodema sufferer here :( was seen by an allergist &immunologist this year. Found out its not through any allergys and possible auto-immune connection so am now referred to a Rhuematologist because of possible connection and bloods showing signs of underlying problem although nothing seems to be jumping out and so im sitting on the fence.

Rheumatologist now mixing meds around to help symptoms! after seeing a skin specialist/dermatologist/allergist & immunologist!! Im given to a Rheumatologist! :-? :-? :-? :-?   4 combination drugs...

fexofenadine
Montelukast
Citrizine
Renitidine

My hives are triggered by pressure , hormones & change in tempreture.
Angeiodema is triggered by stress and each morning my face/lips & eyes are blown up
Most severe case was having my nasal airways close up  luckily no throat swellings

Me too !!! If anyone finds a cure I would love to know, I'm currently taking antibiotics for my itching as I scratched my legs so badly they bled and got infected. I have tried so many itch creams all seem to make it worse. The only thing that helps at night is cold wet flannels on them . Back to Docs next week I guess.

I really suffer with itching. I have a back scratcher upstairs and downstairs, I even have an extendable one for my handbag! I also take an antihistamine every night. I would try anything to stop the itching!

Hugs
