My mum does loads but she has bought herself a special sewing machine to do it. She is part of a patchwork group, so maybe look on the internet and see if there's one in your area.

There was a great machine on Ideal World or Creat and Craft a while ago, but it was very very dear.
But look into facebook im sure there will be a forum for it somewhere.
You could make baby cot sized ones and sell to friends.
