Creating awareness via Out Patients

Postby websi7 » Mon Sep 19, 2011 4:24 am

For the last few months we have held a 2 hr session at Rugby St Cross Hospital Out Patients to catch newly diagnosed people with FM, offering a chat as well as booklet on Fibromyalgia and details of our local support group.

There are 4 in the team, so we field 2 each Friday afternoon session, and although number of people is usually low, quality is very variable. We often get friends or relatives who are there for other reasons, and are interested to know more.

The newly diagnosed are not helped a lot so for us to tap into this side and catch them early has to be good for them.

How many support groups already do a "drop in" session at their local hospital (all, most, a few) I do not know, we got the idea when Coventry group did it. '

Many people we talk to we never hear from again, some of become members and have benefited from the program.

I would be interested to hear from others who have either found out about FM via local support group hospital "clinic" or the experiences of support groups in other hospitals.
