Am I being referred or not?

Postby Miranda1987 » Tue Oct 11, 2011 1:16 pm

Okay, this may seem like a stupid question, but....my doctor said he is referring me to a rhuemy, and I'm not sure that is happening.....

Also, I don't know if different practices have different ways of doing it or not, so maybe it's just mine. Basically, when I last went to see the doctor, he said he would refer me. He said 'First we will send you a letter. This letter will then tell you how to make an appointment with the rhuematologist.'

Is this what normally happens? I'm not sure as I've never been referred to anyone before, and I'm not sure how it works. Also, like I said, it might just be something that my area does, South Tees NHS. I always thought you got a letter from the hospital telling you when the appointment is????

I'm asking purely because it's nearly been a week since I saw him, and we've had no letter as yet. I just wanted to see if anyone else could give me some advice on this before I rang the surgery and had an awkward conversation. :dunno:

Hi Miranda

It could be that they are giving you an option for you to choose which Rheumy you want to see and at what hospital to choose to go to, with the shortest waiting list. :dunno:

Thank you for your reply shazq, I've just rang them and found out there was a stupid mix-up

Apparently the letter was not to be sent to myself (as my doctor stated not once, but twice), but to my local hospital, which makes more sense, and they will send me the appointment time.

I think I definitely need to change doctors lol! :hit1: x

Some health authorities use Choose and Book where the doc says what yours did and then you get a letter with a code and a number to ring and it gives you choices of times and dates.
Mine does it but only for some specialists so maybe thats where to confusion came from.
