3wk in patient course for pain management

Postby *Lisa* » Sat Nov 26, 2011 1:42 pm

My close fibro friend has been to the pain clinic today and is being refered to a top london hospital for an in patient 3week pain clinic course consisting of top consultants.

A team of physio's, psychologists. pain consultants etc will work with him on this 3wk pain management plan

He has suffered many many years and tried everything from therapies to meds with no help.

This course is very sort out after but only a few round country and only a few get through to this course. apparently there is a waiting list but that ok as i feel this will be fab :fingerscrossed:

I wish i was on a course! lol

Has anyone been on such courses? would like to know roughly what to expect and if you improved?

I will think of doing a blog on here and reporting back to you all on his daily progress and what they do so if you feel this is a good thing for you , you can ask to be refered also.

I Have done something like this in a hospital in Bath. I was quite a lot younger arround 10-12 i can remember staying at a hotel, having a taxi back and forth to the hospital every morning and home for the weekend, that in itself was exhausting. There was a few doctors that specialised in pain management but not specific to fibro. The physio gave me daily excersises i was supposed to expand one, there was a hydro therapy pool and there was someone that went through pain management ideas like breathing excersises and thinking of pacing yourself and imagining the pain going away. its hard to explain but its the kind of things we would go through everyday as i was young and so out of energy when i got home i left everything go except using your mind to relax maybe cause i have had a few courses to go on since that had similar things. There is a enhanced rehabilitation programme that i have also gone to that had very simmilar things but i find once i finish i let everything go its so hard to keep remembering everything. especially when they tell you to keep excersising and its does get better (but i have never found that it does get any easier) i think the 3 week or 6 week programmes are useless, maybe for us it should be once a week as it keeps it refreshed in our mind. i did have that for a while through something the jobcentre had me on but it lasted for 10 weeks and just ended.

We need a programme where we can come once a week get counceling, phisio through hydro. pain managment techniques, and general support with other sufferers. for the rest of our lives i wish i could start something like this i would never know where to start but if any of you do please let me know so i can come lol.

do forgive me i havnt got the right strength to read through this and correct it so if theres spelling mistakes and it dont make sence sorry lol :D

Hi, I know where your coming from as i am experiencing the same with my mental health.

Im ok once in councilling or CBT then a few months after the sessions have ended i winde back again  iv gone through so many therapies all which have helped but i am in constant need of them to keep my head above water!

If i let slip my mental health it agrivates the pain so i must be level headed or i flop :hit1:

I find things start to slip at times Lisa. When this happens, I dig out all the stuff I worked thru in the sessions and go back to basics, and go thru it all from the start again. It usually helps me get things a bit more balanced again.
