Disability, Doctors and Despair

Postby quentinb » Thu Aug 30, 2012 12:31 pm

I suffer from Fibromyalgia.....yes I look fine and can walk straight....problem is that every single bit of my body hurts like hell...from chronic back ache to feet, facial muscles to neck...I have confusion and when I have an attack one side of my mouth tightens resulting in slurred speech, all this more or less on a daily basis.
My disability claim was rejected out of hand ......but honestly, truthfully I am unable to work....feel absolutely terrible I have to rely on my partner to support me....she is an angel.
Things could be worse.....I could have no one to support me I suppose. Anyway trying to find another Doctor in the Walthamstow area...my previous Doc left.....the new Doctor won't give me more than a minute as I look okay (as in not sick). If only they could feel what I felt eh?
Depression varies from day to day but the fatigue is crippling. So great to have this site....

Moved you into here as it seemed a bit more suitable with you asking about wanting a new GP. Have you had a look to see if there is a support group in your area that you could get in touch with??? They may have some recommendations for FM friendly GPs, or at least be able to tell you which ones aren't quite so helpful.

Hope you can get something sorted soon :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

Hello,
I'm no expert at all, but I live nearby in Wanstead and found my doctors VERY understanding when I went to them asking questions and for help with fibro.
I don't know how it works if you can change to this surgery or if that's not possible, but it's Evergreen Surgery, Wanstead high Street.
And I usually visit either of the male doctors, Dr Jhetam or Dr Hutchings and they are lovely!

Hi,

I also live in Walthamstow, and was diagnosed with FM last Monday by a specialist. Mine is not nearly as debilitating as yours, but I feel I need support. I'm sure my doctors thought it was all in my head, but finally - after 10 years - I have a diagnosis.

I see there's a support group in Newbury Park, but this is a bit far to go.

Have you found any help around the Walthamstow area?

Hope you're coping okay,

Vally
