Felt patronised by pain clinic

Just got back from a three month wait to see the pain clinic at my local hospital. I really thought I was going to get some understanding into what is going on in my body and what I can use to help rid myself of some of the pain.

I take 400 mg of the recommended dose of Tramadol sometimes a bit more but it does not touch my joint pain and finding it wakes me in the night.

Ibrufen helps but sets off my ibs and I just wanted to ask about Low dose Naltroxone. Doctor opened the file said she did not know what that was, and in a nutshell, try cut down the tramadol as to when I need it. I need it as I take it on a good day so she suggested heat I said yes the shower does help the aching but not for long.

She said try the heat pads and some tiger balm come down off the tramadol and manage with the shower and at least you can say you have used 3 less tramadol this day. I said I would have to live in and out of the shower and be in considerable pain. I told her my pain is an incredible ache throbbing all over.

Amitriptyline I can up that for you I said no it caused me so much weight gain and so does gabapentin. So once again she suggested yoga tiger balm and heat pads.

Three months and she had not even looked into the drug that I came there for. Said she will research it and let me know but she does not work privately so evidently she can't help.

So angry, if my oh was not there I would have come out feeling like a nobody and misunderstood. He said she was patronising and did not attempt to be interested in my pain or Fibromyalgia.

A lot of doctors don't know much about fb. Ask your doctor to refer you to a rheumatologist as they know a lot more.
Good luck

Sorry to hear the experience was not a good one TATT I would go back to the GP and tell them how she made you feel and ask to be referred to someone else :hugs: :hugs:

thanks MB, and Kath I am under a rheum my trouble is I refuse the drugs that make me fat. So the ones I ask for that don't cause weight loss are FDA approved for Fibro maybe MS and Parkinson's but not FM even though it's similar symptoms we just have not been elected enough money for research yet.

I was going to do that Denys I had an appointment booked for this afternoon. But I cancelled it because my doctor sends me to a pain specialist and gives me the same advice as my GP.

I have still been in pain and 2 and 1/2 stone heavier and miserable about my weight because of the anti dep and I am not going to take more amitriptyline than I already do. I don't want to put all that weight back on. I was worse off mentally and physically.

I am too tired to fight today, I am just letting it go. I will fight another day though that you can be sure.

Tatt x
