Point of contact

Postby davecooper » Mon Oct 01, 2012 4:13 pm

At last I have been able to get a Rheumatologist referal from a locum who seemed very knowledgable about FM and other Autoimmune type diseases. As I detailed in my introduction some time ago, I seem to suffer from spells of what it now seems are Fibro related conditions and for which I have gone to my GP. These have included burning flushed skin, frozen shoulders, headaches, racing heartbeat etc. In most cases, no obvious underlying cause has been found and invariably the symptoms went away (although some have returned for periods). I now think I may have developed IBS. My question is, will the Rheumatologist be aware of the other conditions that can accompany FM and would they be a single point of contact for all such problems or will I go back to my GP for anything other than muscular aches and pains?

hi, when i went i had wrote all my problems down and how bad it was what i could no longer do and what i had trouble with and how i felt emotionaly about this,

he sent me for more tests and examined me, when i went back to see him a few months later he examined me again and diagnosed fm,

perscibed some pills aranged to see physio and told me to learn all i coud and join a support group or forum and discharged me into my gps care.

i now see gp will anything and he treats things as they arise we have to treat each problem as its a syndrome and we fm has many faces.

i hope you find all the help fro the rhumy and your gp but dont get into the habit of puting all ills down to fm have them checked out.

take care xx

Most rheumatologist's discharge you back into the care of your GP once they have made the diagnosis, some maybe keep you on their books for a while before doing so but your point of contact will be your GP normally

Hi
Once my Rheumy gave me my Dx of fibro he discharged me back into the care of my gp.

Some Rheumy`s will do extra tests it depends on the Rheumy but most leave it up to your gp.

Thats funny was thinking myself today about this as i got a copy of my diagnoses and treatment from the dermotologist about something else and on it, it says he has discharged me (after the diagnosis) back to the care of my GP with a medication action plan for him!

So it seems the consultants are only there for diagnostic reasons only then cya later  back to doc we go just like the rheumatologist for my fibro.

Trouble is GP are not specialists in these areas yet are left to pick up the pieces. So its important we find a GP who looks after you as they are the main man (lady)
