So lost :0( don't know what to do now

Postby Di davo » Thu Jun 13, 2013 2:14 pm

Hi,
I'm so upset angry and confused :0( just been to my neurologist appointment that my doctor has refered me to as he thinks I have fibro,
What a waste of time, the only thing he heard from me was my headaches, and even though I have for the past year tried must chronic migraine meds to prevent them with no success, that is what he day's I have.
He wasn't interested in any other pains I am getting throughout my body, the days all I can do is sleep, or not sleep at all, the inability to do maths or speak the words I want, or just don't feel like me anymore!!!,
He wants to treat the migraines for 6 months and then if other symptons are still there he will look into everything else :0(
I have to stop taking any co-codamal and any tramadol as apparently this is why I am getting pains everywhere else!
I wanted to scream at him that the doctor gave me the pain meds because of the pain every where else, not for a headache, how I cannot walk my dog far because I spend days in pain with my legs,
I am so fed up!!, I really thought my doc was right when he said he thinks it's fibro and showed me the symtoms, finally I fitted somewhere,

I don't know what to do now, my headaches do not put me down, it's the combination of everything else, and if I can't use painkillers what have I got to help?
Sorry for going on, I am again lost :0(

Ask to be refered to a Rhumatologist.

They will look into the symptoms for fibromyalgia as they deal with musculoskeletal disorders.

I must also add that chonic headaches/migraines is a very commen FM symptom.

Hi Di Davo

I am so so sorry you are having these issues with your so called specialist. Unfortunately quite a few of us have had a irght old battle on our hands when trying to get a diagnosis.

As your GP referred you to the neuro I would suggest going back to your GP and telling him what happened at the appointment and how frustrated you are - may be worth making some notes before you go so you can make sure you know what you want to say and dont miss anything out.

As FM symptoms do mimick a lot of symptoms for many other illnesses, doctors and specialists tends to try and filter out what they can to see what they are left with and if it still fits with FM (if that makes any sense lol?) I think this is maybe what your neuro is trying to do. But as for telling you to stop taking your meds - see your GP first about this. I am currently on co codamol and tramadol and I'm in the middle of weaning myself off them slowly as stopping them too quick can cause some nasty side effects, so please seek advice before just stopping taking them altogether.

Your GP seems to be convinced it is Fibro and you don;t have to see a specialist to get the diagnosis, I think your Gp was just after a second opinion. I too was referred by mine (to a Rheumatologist) even though he like yours was convinced it was FM before I saw the Rheumy.

Hope this helps a bit, try not to get too worked up, you will get there! I know how awful it is to feel like you are not "you" anymore. Take baby steps and take things easy.

Thank you, I have calmed down a little now, hubby seems to think the gp will refer me to a rumotheropist ( sorry can't think how to spell it) as he was the one that disagreed with the chronic migraines from the first time and he thinks fibro more likely, I have an appointment with him Tuesday
Thank you again

Good luck at your GP appointment.

The nuerologist is likely looking for other causes for your symptoms but not truly listening to you. Your Dr suggests fibro. Like said already, he is looking for a second opinion. I am sure you will have a better outcome from your GP.

Well, saw my Gp today who has had the letter from the neurologist, so even though he seemed like he wasn't listening he did?!?
He wants to keep treating my head as chronic migraine, and has started me on beta blockers and a long list of other things incase these don't work, as for everything else he does think there is underlying fibro and wants me on gabapentin and will see how I am in 6 months,
I feel much better about things now as I really thought he didn't believe me
Thanks :0)
Here's hoping new meds will help so I can get back to work soon

Di

I'm so happy things seem a bit better for you. I've been on gabapentin and they worked a treat for me, really knocked the edge off the pain. They did take a good few months to kick in fully though so don't feel too disheartened if you don't feel much difference straight away.

Good Luck, let us know how you're getting on with them
xx
