neurology nhs referral/ second opinion/hydrotherapy

Postby sjc » Tue Dec 17, 2013 8:38 pm

Hi folks,

Sorry I haven't been on here for ages - as you can image, I been having flare ups, but with some good days, and still seeking treatments, etc... ;-) You know how it goes everyone.

Anyways, finally got a referral to hydrotherapy on the NHS - So my first question to you guys is has anyone had hydrotherapy, and what did you think of it, and what happens during sessions?

Secondly, has anyone been diagnosed with fibromyalgia then later found out they had another underlying physical/neurological condition, like arthritis, multiple sclerosis, thyroid issues, etc.... ? Do you sometimes think you have been misdiagnosed as fibromyalgia? Have you ever questioned your diagnosed at any point?

Has anyone been referred to neurology specialist on the NHS, and what did you think about the experience? What it useful? What examinations and conclusions did they come? Did you receive rehabilitation treatment from neurology as a result of your diagnosis with fibromyalgia or any other condition you have with the neurologist?

I have asked my Gp if I could rule out multiple sclerosis as I was originally diagnosed by a gp some years ago, but then some of the symptoms I have been having recently are more neurological, for example, muscle twitching, head jerks, electric shock sensations, struggling to get my words out, foot drags sometimes, dizzy spells, itchy skin, etc....So just wondered if anyone has neurological issues along their fibromyalgia and what you did about this?

Take care folks. xxx :-P

Hi sjc,

I've newly been diagnosed with fibro by a rheumi, but I was referred to neurology as I had elevated ck levels (muscle enzymes), but ruled out movement disorder and muscle disease, said a general neurological clinic would be better suited. I haven't yet seen anyone.

Not much to say about it apart from he said all tests were normal.

I suffer with the electric shock feeling, muscle twitching, itchy skin and severe dizzy spells, where I loose my co-ordination, feel on the verge of passing out and cant walk very well, my partner drags me to a chair and sits holding me up until I come round, when I do I feel shaky with horrible tingling in my hands and face, including in my mouth. I have had no reasons for this and I'm assuming they have put it down to fibro as it hasn't been mentioned again?? I've in and out of hospital this year with all sorts and haven't had much feedback or support so I hope you get better feedback than I did.

Let me know how you get on!

Nikki

I have many of these symptoms too and i do question fibro all the time. To me it does sound like MS a lot!!!
Please post your findings if any. I am planning to go doctors next week and ask them too.

I was sent back to rheumatology, and had fibro confirmed 18/18 trigger points, plus she said my other symptoms were related. Due for meds change and will ask about the dizzy things again as had another today.

Let me know if either of you find anything out...

Gentle hugs
