Although. Our health care is covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan, similar to NHS. Some doctors charge the equivalent of £23 for a missed appointment. Personally I think it is a good idea.

A lot of folk take advantage . They call and want an appointment thinking they need one but maybe the time comes and they have something better to do, or they feel better, no longer need the appointment and don't call to cancel. There are many excuses. That is time that the Dr has set aside for them. The least a patient can do is respect that someone else may need a DR.

I agree about the missed appointments, I missed a couple because I simply 'forgot' so now get text alerts from the surgery and if for some reason I am not going to be able to attend then they give you the opportunity to cancel. I just dont fancy having to pay to see the doc, thats like going private with no insurance :yikes: :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

So what is being suggested is that the patient pays for the Dr. He does not bill NHS? The only thing I see here is the Dr's winning. Will they be able to set their own fees? I am assuming that NHS has a scale of what can be billed to them, so if the Dr's bill the patient then the sky is the limit.
The only way I could possibly see this , would be for NHS to charge for missed appointments. You can't have a health service that covers some things but not the initial appointment.

Yes, charging for late appointments is very popular with people. If it does come of perhaps it will end up something like that?

Won't be a problem with my surgery as you can never get a damned appointment!

I wonder if we get a rebate if Dr's are late for appointments? That should help my bank balance! :-)
