Hi all

I am a frustrated 28 year old who suffer from fibro I have been diagnosed for a year and a half. I must say thou in the last 4 years doctors and the NHS have been both fantastic and terible. Alot of doctors think that fibro as a a big act of your imagination and think you are a hypercondriact just looking for attention. I remember having a great rheumetologist who took his time and tried to get to the bottom of my aches and pains but one day this rude senior doctor took me instead of my usual rheumatoligist and to make things worse he had a student present he poked and proded me said you might have fibro but you will just have to live with it! Thankfully my own GP didnt give up on me and refered me to pain clinic :D. There I met a female doctor who implied that I was making it up and that I had asked my doctor for a referal but after she gave me 6 weeks of accupuncture she relised how somedays even a tiny bit of pressure on a sore point and I nearly jump thourough the rough!

Anyway the point of my post today is that I dont seem to be getting anywere I just go round in circles because I have been on so many drugs: citalopram, nortriptiline, amatriptiline, diclofenac, hydrochloroquinine, pregabilin etc and I just cant sleep! It is affecting my whole life and making me misrible! I can get to sleep but after a few hours I wake up either in pain or because I get used to waking. It makes me and my husband grumpy and I just feel I am not getting as much enjoyment out of life as I should! Any sugestions!!! :D On my last visit to pain clinic they suggested referal to sleep clinic but my own gp thinks Its not worthwhile because I can get to sleep and its the pain that wakes me!
Unfortunetly I still have to work full time also have a family to look after and a house to run which dosnt help!!!!

Can you get a referral to a consultant you specialises in Fibro? They might be able to help with more Fibro targeted med suggestions at least.

Have you only been diagnosed with Fibro? I ask because hydrochloroquinine is a drug for conditions like RA and Lupus. It's not a Fibro drug at all. And Diclofenac isn't really a Fibro drug either as it's for treating inflammation. Those 2 sound like a rheumy was suspecting - and treating - an autoimmune inflammatory condition.

Of the other meds you mention, citalopram isn't often used for Fibro as it only works on serotonin levels. Amitriptyline doesn't have research to back up its use long-term or at high doses for Fibro (and Nortriptyline is a very similar drug). And Pregabilin only works for about half of Fibro patients.

So it's not all that surprising that those medications haven't helped enormously. :) Don't worry, there's still quite a lot of options left - plus Fibro is best managed through a multi-disciplinary approach and a lot of the extras can be done or organised yourself.

Hi fifididi, i to was on a lot of meds and they did nothing for ME, so i stop taken them, with the help from my GP,i had no life in me and all they did was make me sleepy, did not take any pain away from me just dulled it down, what I use is pain killers and a hot waterbottel with a cover on it, it does the same thing for ME, and i dont feel as sleepy, thats what I have chosen for myself, not everyone is the same, you should go back to your GP and speak to him and tell him how you are feeling, hope you get some answers. :hugs:

Effective meds for Fibro should treat many of the symptoms and improve your Quality of LIfe. If they don't, they're not effective for you - many of the meds known to be useful specifically for Fibro, e.g. Pregabalin, can only work on about half of Fibro patients.
