Another GP visit

Postby coral » Tue Jan 04, 2011 10:48 pm

Hi posted on here several times. Been to GP's again tonight, not been there for a wee while. Sat in the chair, he looked at me and I said "ok I'm pretty fed up now, had this pain and other horrible symptoms for over 2 years now, no improvement with Ami's or pain kilers etc". He is the second GP who said it looks and sounds like Fibro. He did ask me if there is anywhere on my body that hurts to touch and I showed him then he said again "definitely points to Fibro". No referral offered when I asked about a proper diagnosis to a Rheumy. He's putting me on Gabapentin, which will start tomorrow, hope this helps and still got to stay on the Ami's 50mg every night. I told him that I get so dizzy, like today in work felt I was going to faint loads of times. He said yet another part of Fibro. I asked him about my sore tongue which I had from last January until April then cleared up and started up again last October and still have it. He's not sure about that but said the Gabapentin might help, but not sure. Told me to avoid spicy food which I do but when I do have a curry it really helps soothe my tongue, avoid caffeine and stop smoking. Admit I do smoke, can't get my head around quitting at moment but know I will have to do so in the near future.

I told him that I want to go to Morocco with my husband approx April/May to visit my husbands family there as I have had to miss it twice as being too ill to go. He said that I should go and it would be interesting to see if I feel better out there because of the hot weather. He was quite enthusiastic to be honest, saying it wouldn't cost much blah blah blah. Not that easy when I'm on Incap and my hubby on part time wages. Anyway have to wait and see in the next few months.

Still waiting to see Gastro specialist, cock up made in the hospital after seeing Ortho Consultant, said he would refer me that was last July and found out in December no referral made. GP said he would try and chase it up and hopefully I should get to see him about February.
I really can't come to terms with this, one part of me thinks that its defo Fibro then all these other stupid symptoms pop up alongside it. Besides my tongue hurting my teeth also hurt and I notice that most of my pain is always on right side of body. Anyone else like this?

I'm sorry youre struggling at the moment, and to be honest I was diagnosed by my GP and from what i've read on here seeing a rheumi for a diagnosis isn't all that brilliant either.

I also get a sore tongue as well and put it down to the fact that my mouth is very dry when I waske up in a morning, when I went to see my dentist recently and she checks all my mouth an tongue and she came to the same conclussion as me.

Have you heard of TMJ which is chronic pain in your jaw/teeth going up towards you're ear. I suffer from this and get pain in jaw etc and I have to wear a mouth guard at night :(

Hi Fabme. No I've never heard of that and I've only had the pain in the right side of my teeth (top/bottom) for about 3/4 weeks, tongue problem for a very long time. Constantly chewing gum, which does help with the soreness. Only way I can describe the tongue pain is as if someone has run a cheese grater along it, really raw. Should be going to see my dentist next month so can ask him to check things out in my mouth, see what he says.

I just find this whole thing hard to get to grips with, keep worrying that the GP has got it wrong and that its something completely different. When it all started I also started kicking into the menopause, was diagnosed with hiatus hernia and gall stone (gall bladder removed July 2009). Then the pain just got worse and worse and now its just messing up my life so much. Can't concentrate, keep forgetting so much and throwing things in the bin which I don't mean to. Lost 3 things this week and found them in the bin and can't remember putting them there. Almost made my coffee in the bin too the other day lol. Guess I just got to accept it and find out as much as I possibly can and hope these new tablets help a bit.

Sorry to hear what you're going thru at the moment coral :hugs: :hugs: With you saying your GP thinks these different things could be FM, but you haven't had a referral to a Rheumy, could you ask your GP if he feels able to give you a diagnosis himself?? Based on what you've said about meds, it seems as if he's treating it as if it is FM, even tho you haven't been told that it is.

:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: the gabapentin and other meds start to make a difference to how you're feeling and that you don't have to wait too long for your appt with the gastro specialist :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

I've seen 2 different GP's and both said that everything thats wrong with me relates to Fibro. I've asked numerous times if they will refer me but they say its no point are no tests are done for it. Was asked if anywhere hurts if touched and I told GP last night between both my knees. outside top of thighs, inside elbows and a few other places. Started taking the Gabapentin tonight, hope they work as nothing else does.

Gets really frustrating because I don't think my husband really understands how I feel. Most days he says "you have pain"? He says it like its new, not that I have it every day. My son who is 18 tomorrow really doesn't care one hoot how I feel and doesn't help me at all. Only one who understands is my mam. People don't understand the amount of pain with this and all the other s******* symptoms. When people say to me "what do you mean your tongue is sore, how sore is sore"? I say the only way I can describe it as if someone has run a cheese grate up and down my tongue. They don't say no more after that.
