Worried

Postby Ninja » Mon Jun 27, 2011 12:57 am

So i've been trying to deal with my health problems seperatley, not thinking they could in anyway be related. Then a friend told me about FM, and it was a website describing my life :p I'm going to the doctors on tuesday, whats the best way to bring it up? I don't want to just walk in and diagnose myself, and i don't want them to dismiss me, because this is the only thing that fits everything. I really want a diagnosis...

Any advice?

oh ninja you are were i was last year ,,, afteryears of worrying what was going wrong with me , i walked into my doc agian and insted of the usual patronising reception , when i said i was getting tiered ( had never told him befor) he whent ah there is this thing called fibro and its a bit of a mystery ??? he refferedme to rummy for the second time , i asked about fibro ten years before but they said no it was notthat.
this time i saw a new consultant , who after a thourghj exam and re running a batch of tests , said i have no dougt you have fibromyalgia.
to be honest it was a huge relef , but now we have a name but no treattment we want to persue, tried all the meds years ago and had no positve effects.
any way good luck hope ypur gp is one who belives in the condition, try to let it come from him if you can, just tell him you need answers

the interesting bit though is like you i looked at the fm desciptions and it was like looking in to a mirror
take care

Hello ninja :welcome: to the forum

The best way I've found to bring up things with a doc, be it new symptoms and problems to a change in current ones, is to take a list of symptoms, problems, how they affect you and so on with you. Maybe list them in some sort or order of what affects you the most :dunno: :dunno: Then you can talk thru them with your gp and see what is said.

As for saying that you think it's FM, that's not an easy one to do, I'm afraid   FM isn't a simple, straight forward condition to dx. There are several other illnesses with very similar symptoms to FM. The usual route to finding what the cause of your symptoms is to start with blood tests. Depending on their results, your gp may feel it necessary to do additional tests, send you for xrays, scans etc. When the results of any other tests etc are received, your gp could either make a dx themselves if they feel confident to do so, or refer to a rheumy or other suitable specialist. If you need to see a specialist, they may decided to run additional tests eetc. When these results are back, they will hopefully tell you what is the cause of your health problems.

All this can take a while as other conditions are tested for during the process. If the tests for them don't show anything, and these conditions have been ruled out, that is when a dx of FM tends to be given

Hope some of what I'm rambling on about makes a bit of sense to you. Hope your appt goes well tomorrow and starts off finding out what is causing your problems :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: Let us know how things go and what is happening with things and we'll do out best to give you support and guidance thru things :hugs: :grouphug:

Thanks everyone, I will definatley write a list, ill probly forget everything if I don't anyway :p

I have had multiple blood tests, urine tests, xrays and an MRI scan showing nothing but some wear and tear.

Are there many more tests they will want to do?

I think you've got a full house there with what you've had done   You could take some info about FM with you as well as your list, maybe explain where you've heard about it and that you're wondering if it might be the reason for your health problems because of the the various things you have that are also part of FM, then see what your gp says from there.

A lot of us do the list thing for appts so we don't forget what we want to talk about when we get there.

:goodluck2: with tomorrow's appt :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

went to see the doctor today. Absolute waste of time…

Gave him my list, which he rolled his eyes at and skimmed over. He then asked what I was most concerened about at the moment so I said the pain and extreme fatigue.

He poked and prodded a bit, which hurt.
I mentioned that my depression that I was previously diagnosed with wasn't getting any better, he blamed that on the contraceptive injection.

Said he'd give me different painkillers and didn't (only remembered when I got home), and is sending me for more blood tests.

When I mentioned fibrous he practically cringed and said I doubt it that at your age (21) and it wouldn't be hurting all over

first I wasn't aware there was a particular age to have fibro (going from how long I've had symptoms I started in primary school) and isn't the main symptom pain everywhere?

So upset :'(

You could ask the physio what they think, I can't think of any posts I've seen who have been dx'd by a physio, bit I'm very groggy myself today   I don't think a physio can give an actual dx, but they may have some ideas and advice about what you could do next :cup1: :cup1:

Is there not another doc you could try and see at your surgery??

Hi Ninja, I agree with Flup, normally if a physio thinks you may have it then its usually a report to your doc and a referral to a rhuemy, you aren't mythering you are trying to get a dx so if there is a more approachable doc then if I were you I'd give them a go :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :hugs:

Sorry you did not have much luck with your gp. Some docs do like to do lots of blood tests to rule other things out first, fibro does not show up on any tests so it can take a while before gp`s dx you.
When they have finished the bloods and you go back for the results if they are all clear ask to be refered to a rheumy, just say to your gp that you want some answers as you have been in pain for a long time and its interfering with your everyday life and causing depression. :goodluck1:
