Hello, I'm new here

Postby ITbird » Tue Sep 06, 2011 10:31 am

Hi all,

It's nice to have found this place!

I have not been formally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia yet, have an appointment with Rheumatologist on 7th October to see what he thinks.

I have however had many symptoms over several years which seem similar to what I've read on here and have flared up pretty bad in the past 4 months to the extent of using crutches and wheelchairs.

I have the following symptoms daily:
- intense muscle and joint pain all over my body even down to my fingers and toes
- fatigue
- lack of concentration, saying the wrong words etc
- IBS
- long delay in urinating
- clumsiness
- can't feel the floor properly which has led to me slipping on the stairs
- exercise makes the pain and fatigue worse, even walking up some stairs

I'm sure there's more but I can't for the life of me remember them now!

I live at home with my two young children (2 and 5 years old) and my very supportive civil partner, Penny.

I've seen Neurologists and Musculoskelatal specialists as well and pain management. None of which had any idea what to do with me. All bloods and MRI has come back clear. I'm currently doing Hydrotherapy once per week with the NHS physio.

I've referred myself to Social Services and Occupational Therapy to try to get some help around the house and with aids like a shower seat and stuff like that.

Well that's me really! Hello! :)

:welcome: to the forum Amanda

There is a lot of advice and things on here, hopefully you'll find some of it helpful.

A lot of the things you've listed could be due to FM, :goodluck2: with your appt on the 7th :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:

In the meantime, if there's anything you want to know, just ask and we'll see what we can do to help you with an answer :chicken-dance: :chicken-dance:

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum and I am so glad to have found it. I hope you don't mind me crashing in on you all like this, but i've been dealing with alot of the problems you all have been discussing. I have suffered with very bad pain for nearly 3 years without knowing whats been wrong with me. I finally had to give up work in May. Since then I have been battling with doctors, benefits and all that fm throws at you on a daily bases. I have finally got my medical assessment for benefits on 8/9/11 and frankly I am very nerveous. If you have any advice I would be very grateful. I am not sure what to expect but I can't believe its anything good and due to me stressing over it so much my fm is raging which is freaking me out even more. HELP PLEASE :(

Thanks all, I kinda don't want to have fibro but it would be good to finally understand what is happening to me if you know what I mean?

All medical tests are absolutely clear, they've ruled out rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis, Lupus and many others. If it's not fibro then who knows??

We'll see what the rheumatologist has to say next month!

Thanks again all x

Thats good that the docs have done other tests on you.
It can take a long time to get the DX of fibro as it does not show up on any of the tests so its always the last thing on the list.
Hope you get the answers in Oct. :fingerscrossed:

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.

I'm looking forward to Hydrotherapy tomorrow. It's my 1st session. I'm in loads of pain and exhausted tonight so hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I think I'll get my diagnosis on 7th Oct so not too long. Everyone thinks it's fibromyalgia anyway. Then I can move on with getting the support of I need.

The pic is my xbox avatar, reasonably life like! I'm an IT technician and xbox geek lol

Nice to hear from you.

Finally - A Diagnosis

Postby ITbird » Tue Oct 18, 2011 10:23 am

Hi all,

I finally got my diagnosis...100 % Fibromyalgia. The rheumatologist says there is no doubt. At least I have a name for it now.

I'm finding hydrotherapy to be a great help, I've had 6 sessions now and am entitled to anther 6 apparently before I need to be discharged.

It's weird, but having a diagnosis brings a sense of relief that it's not all in my head and at least it's not something awful or terminal like Cancer for example. I regard myself as lucky to have 'only' Fibromyalgia!

To be honest, I spent years thinking it was all in my head and I was a hypochondriac. Then I went through stages of thinking it must be something awful like cancer.

So to find out that it's a real condition and I'm not going crazy is a huge relief. I guess I'm a pretty positive person anyway, so now that I have a name to call my condition I can now move on and make the best of the life I have. FM won't kill me so I figure I just live life to the full on the good days and spend the bad days doing simple things like reading books with my two young sons or lying under the duvet watching movies with them.

That's not to say I havent shed a tear or two over the unfairness of it all but on the whole I accept that I have FM and am willing to live with it.

I hope you also find the positive side of this unfair condition x

Thanks for your offer :)
