Hello from East Sussex

Postby Fly1970 » Sun Sep 18, 2011 1:58 pm

Hello folks,

I stumbled across this (brilliant, I might add) forum via links on Facebook and decided to join.

A little about me (sorry, in advance, for the waffling):

I'm 40, a single mum with an almost grown up teenage son, 1 x dog, 1 x cat and a few fish. No living relatives (apart from my son) for support or help and my best friend lives 60 miles away! I'm doing life on my own... which was fine, once upon a time.......

Following a disasterous life event back in 2005 I have suffered with acute depression, to varying degrees, since then - making me unable to work (I did try to return to work in 2008 but the stress involved appeared to trigger Grave's Disease and I was forced to leave that job after only 8 weeks - I have been unable to work since).

About a year ago (after a long awaited house move) I started to experience various symptoms (pain, all over flu like aches, fatigue, fog, migraines, etc) and my GP suggested it "could" be Fibromyalgia. We waited to see if the symptoms might wear off - they didn't.

I had lots of different blood tests - none showing any cause of my symptoms. Since then more symptoms of Fibro (tinnitus at night, heat/light/sound senstivities, Restless Leg Syndrome, etc) have presented over the last 12 months.

Recently, I was referred to a Pain Management Specialist at the local hospital who also "suspected" Fibromyalgia. I saw her on a good day (the timing never happens just right, does it?!) and she checked various pressure points. No pain or tenderness felt at all - nada.

I'm due to have more blood tests in a few days time (inc. Lyme Disease, ANA, something else and etc) to see if there might be an indication of another cause of my multiple symptoms. Lupus has been mentioned but I don't have the butterfly rash (just a rather ruddy complexion) and my joints aren't swollen. It's a puzzle.

I had, previously, been in receipt of low rate mobility DLA for depression and anxiety related symptoms for a couple of years but since re-applying to tell them about my ?Fibro symptoms that award has been declined/stopped. (?! Grrr!) I sought help through the local CSA and have re-applied again. I'm still waiting that outcome.

So there you have it... that's me at the moment.... I hope to share words with many of you at some point, whether in help, support, chewing the fat, or just nattering :)

All the best and gentle hugs to all,

Fly

Hi FLY
So sorry the here you are having a bad time with DLA, Have you tried to appeal about there not allowing it to you?
When i first applied i had to appeal and won my case, they say out of all the people that appeal 75% will win so how about giving it a go? :fingerscrossed:
